I think they'll make it work like they did with Ponikarovsky last year. I have to say that at this moment I like a lot of players on the Devils team.

Here's Ray Ferraro's picks for Team Canada.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=415401

He picked 2 Flyers. He has Giroux playing on a line with Stamkos and Coburn as a reserve.

Coburn's a....surprise. He's steady for sure, but I don't think anywhere near good enough to crack that potential lineup. If he hit his peak and stopped taking stupid penalties though, who knows?

Yeah I'm a fan of Coburn's but that still surprised me when reading it. I guess Ferraro was trying to go for guys that could fill certain roles instead of just fielding an all-star team.

At least we all agree that Sestito is a lock for the U.S. team.

Well he can definitely skate, and seeing him on international ice may be a treat. He's also physical and can PK, those are roles he may fill and that Canada may need filled.

He explained on TSN that there are practically no Left Handed defensemen in his lineup and pretty much anyone you would replace him with his RHD as well

Yeah people are blasting the Coburn pick on the main boards the most but then adding unproven players like Justin Schultz and Taylor Hall to their picks.

Schultz is a little bit off the board, but there's a year before the games and Schultz and Hall may be ready by then.

Congrats to Jaromir Jagr on becoming at top ten goal scorer of all time. And increasing his OT goal record

The Kings were never holding him back. He has had chance after chance to stick with the big club and has come up small every time. I am not just blowing smoke either.
I have seen this kid play a lot more then many Kings fans have. I have questioned his drive on if he wants to play in NA. first he threatened to bolt for the KHL then he demanded a trade. Not sure what the guy has done to demand anything.
Maybe he just needs a chance of scenery. Who knows.

I think they're a little young. Canada is loaded. They left off some good young players the last time. I would probably go with this lineup.

Nash-Crosby-Perry
Stamkos-Toews-Giroux
Iginla-E. Staal-Tavares
Richards-Bergeron-J. Staal
Eberle

Weber-Doughty
Letang-Pietrangelo
Keith-Seabrook
M. Staal

Price
Luongo
Ward

I honestly had a tough time picking. They have so many players that are worthy of being there.

Edit: Bob McKenzie just said on NHL Network they probably are going to expand the roster from 23 to 25 for Sochi.

That's a pretty good list. I'd bump Iginla off the team for Spezza, though. And I'd have Benn as the first call in case any of these forwards weren't able to play. I like how you have Keith and Seabrook paired up.

That could get messy, I heard that Russia is going to offer Sestitov a spot on their team...

We are already 1/5 through the season. It's insane.

One team to really watch this offseason is St Louis. They have a ton of RFA's to sign(Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, Berglund, Stewart, Cole, Russel) and about 20 million to do so. They only spend up to about 50 million per year. They have for the last three years. Could be interesting to watch their off season.

Also just learned that Pietrangelo is represented by the same agent as DD. Which might hurt blues chances of a home town discount.

Yeah you could do that. Honestly they're so stacked its hard picking that team with so many good players available.

NHL Trade Report ‏@NHLTradeReport
Reports out there are correct: @nyislanders have acquired Tim Thomas for a conditional 2nd-rounder in either 2014 or 2015.

A 2nd round pick for cap purposes?! Wow and we thought Homer hated 2nd rounders!

Gotta get to that floor somehow. Not shocked. I recall quite a few people around HF speculating this would occur a while ago.

Well the condition is on Thomas playing, so if he doesnt play they dont lose a 2nd.

They are at the cap floor already, but I guess it allows them to move salary at the deadline without taking any back

It just means the Isles have a big cap hit they don't have to pay for. It's useful for them as Charles Wang likes paying as little as possible. The Isles could really use a new owner.

And the writer on Yahoo decided to take a jab. Yikes.

Sure enough, that's exactly what's happened. As first reported by Eklund (which shows that even a broken clock is right twice a day, so Eklund still doesn't come correct as often as a broken clock), the New York Islanders have acquired Thomas and his phantom cap hit in exchange for a conditional 2nd round pick.
