Ill tell you guys if he does report to the Isles he should get a standing O when he comes to Boston. Because that pick will be his last gift to all of us.

So?

I mean, I get that it's a bit sketchy overall, but I really only care about the Bruins' side of the deal. Even if the pick doesn't come our way (and it likely won't), the Bruins just gained the ability to go after anyone they want at the deadline to make a run. Chiarelli turned dead money into a nice cushion. It's an awesome move for us.

For the Isles, well, I can understand if the NHLPA takes a long, hard look at this. Gaining payroll to put them above the floor without actually paying/employing a player isn't something the union is going to be happy with. Hell, it'll probably be part of the next CBA tussle. But if it's not against the CBA, I don't think there's much that can be done.

Without Thomas officially retiring it seems the Islanders can toll this contract for as long as they want and keep getting the $5 million cap hit which McKenzie noted. Sounds like Wang's wet dream.

Right.. except the Bruins have the space right now so if Chia wanted to, he could get a rental top-6 forward THIS season.

anyways, I love Tim Thomas and I wish him nothing but the best in life. With his friends, family and faith. Nothing but the best
He was without a doubt one of, if not the best goalie the Bruins have ever had. *salutes*
Yes, I know. The response was to a post stating that Chiarelli made the move with an eye to next year.

Many of us were.

Have to remember, during the lockout everyone here was an expert on the eventualities of the deal.

Thomas gave us something no goalie had in a long time. In the history of the Bruins, he has a pretty lofty place. He fought his way to the top of the game and I thank him for it

The chances that a player will ever do what Thomas did again (NOT retire and take the year off and leave money on the table) AND somehow move the dead contract to another team is slim.

I could see the NHLPA close that hole in the CBA as a "just in case" measure but I doubt we'll ever see something like this again in our lifetime..

I wonder how long he'll be able to get away with that before it's deemed a form of cap circumvention.

Before this move the isles were at $49m. When I heard of the trade, I thought it was going to be part of a bigger move: getting DiPietro off the NYI roster. 36 yr old Nabokov has played 8 of 9 games and I'm concerned he'll be burned out.

But, Snow is saying he made the move for roster flexibility, which I'll guess means he's eying another possible move.

Any chance TT feels like playing this season?
