You want to get a $100 bill but only willing to give up three $20s?

There's no way Montreal moves Galchenyuk.

Yup AHL defencemen with history of concussion > NHL players

you want a number 1 center--but is looks like you are willing to give nothing up for it? Is that correct

was serious... obviously Rielly & O'Reilly would be the basis.. leafs may have to add a bit on top but nothing major

depends on what colorado wants to do with OReilly tbh... the trade would never happen if he was signed

I think a trade around Gardiner would be the best (legitimate) option. I'd love a trade around Grabovski++ for a #1C.

EDIT: When I say maybe to JVR, Kadri, and Gardiner it's just because I see their worth to us being greater than what other teams perceive them as.
So what you are saying is: You don't want to give up anything of value for a #1C?

Proving ONCE AGAIN that not all Canadian residents know as much about hockey as they think . . .

Hell, why not ask for Tavares for 2 2nd's, Komisarek and Kadri??

Oh, that's right, Kadri is TOO VALUABLE to trade!!!!!!

Yup I'd rather keep a 22 year "AHL Dman" who led the rookies in points in the NHL just last season over a overpaid C who has declined ever since he signed that big contract.

Rangers can manage this year, next, then must trade or buy out before a big contract so there is space under declining cap for McDonagh, etc.

Not moving Nash or Gaborik. That leaves Richards, who can't hold it vs. Rangers the cap went down and either he has input and agrees to trade (waiving NMC) or is bought out.

Like rest of most of Rangers, he's been uneven early on but I blame this more on friggin Torts changing lines every other minute than overly accelerated decline. Decline will likely happen, but he has, IMO, 3-4 good years left (esp. if he is not on a Torts team where forwards sacrifice the body, block shots, etc.). Shortly after that, I think his own contract has a buyout clause, also the cap hit goes way down.

What about this:
Richards + Michele St. Croix + Christian Thomas + additional compensation to be determined (conditional draft picks?)
for
Jake Gardiner as is

I understand he's easing back from concussion. Two weeks from now he could pull a Marc Staal; or he is one hit away from turning into Mike Sauer.

So MSC cost us Grachev, a third round pick, and he has a track record of scoring to date. Christian Thomas was a second, genuinely has all the tools but is smallish, will either be a bottom sixer or another Marty St. Louis, a real boom bust (also is son of former Leaf/Black Hawk star Steve Thomas).

Is that fair? 3rd + 2nd value Ws with some demonstrated scoring ability + Richards, for Gardiner, and we provide conditional picks that upgrade depending upon his availability and performance.

gardiner if he's traded for a C would be for someone same age group - early 20s
o'reilly is a good fit, must admit

but if i'm colo i sign o'reilly, trade stastny for a #1D late 20's
like bouwmeester etc

Burmistrov, Henrique, Bjugstad are names that come to mind for your early 20's category and have 1st line potential, (albeit lower end of it). And doesn't mean any of those teams are inclined to move those players.

But if Toronto had drafted Galchenyuk, would you say: "There is no way Toronto moves Galchenyuk" as well?

I dont know, according to the op, Toronto is looking for a center, so maybe Galchenyuk have more value to Toronto than Montreal.

does Galchenyuk have more value to Montreal than any other team in the league? There are teams worst than Montreal at the center position, Gachelnyuk doesnt have any special link to Montreal. I dont really see a reason why Galchenyuk could have more value to Montreal than his value to another teams, if another team drafted him.

The only reason i can see why Montreal should not move Galchenyuk is the gap between the asking and bidding price. But if a team is willing to close the gap with the right pieces, then a trade is possible.

Yes, last years NHL all-rookie defenceman is an AHL defenceman

One concussion is a history of concussions now.

Thank you, your post was very logical, insightful and well thought out.

I'd keep Lupul and Grabovski for the time being, but otherwise yeah I agree. Nonis is patient enough to do a proper rebuild.

All these O'Rielly proposals. Even if that happened, Toronto would still need a #1 center.

Had Maple Leaf management realized this 5 years ago, you all would be much happier by now.
