Alex Goligoski

Apparently, Goligoski was benched in last night's Stars game and is having a rough start to the year. His cap hit is 4.6 mil over the next 4 years.

LTIR'ing Pronger would make it cap compliant. If he truly is in the doghouse, it may not take a whole lot to get him either.

He's shown he can be a top pairing guy and a PP QB and is just entering his prime. Any interest?

Flyers D seems to be fine right now the way it is, if anything we need a top veteran forward that is younger than Knuble.
Filling in Meszaros' spot is either Lijla or Foster, Foster has played pretty solid so far. When we get Bourdon and Gustafson back we will have some speed on the D as well.

i'll take him, he has offensive upside, we need more offensive power from the defense.

I'd be down with Goligoski as well. He'd be an excellent addition to the power play and would be a great puck mover to play alongside a guy like Schenn or Grossmann. As others have mentioned, he's been a healthy scratch and doesn't fit into the system in Dallas. Maybe a mid round pick to take the cap hit of the Stars' end. Would certainly allow the Flyers to go with a six of Timonen, Schenn, Coburn, Grossmann, Goligoski and Meszaros (when he's healthy). That's not a bad group at all.

Doghouse or not, they gave up Neal + for him. That really has to stick in your craw.

Id definitely be interested.

I just fear what the asking price. The Stars wont just give him away considering they dealt Neal for him.

Edit - D amn, beaten by a hair

While Dallas dealt Niskanen and Neal to land Goligoski, having him sit while paying him $4.6 million a year is going to be tough for a team that is in some trouble financially. I think Nieuwendyk might make a deal involving a lower tier prospect and a draft pick to free up that amount of money. Yes, Dallas gave up a lot to get Goligoski, but the move backfired and maybe they might just be willing to cap their losses to avoid paying big bucks. They'll never get a similar return like the one they gave up initially to land Goligoski.

If wecan get him for cheap, it might just be worth the small risk, for a possible huge reward.

I'd be a pretty happy camper if it was pulled off.

This would be like us benching Brayden for a game and then teams expecting us to give him away for significantly less then what we paid for him

We didn't give up a whole lot for Coburn, if you recall

I get where you're coming from and obviously his price tag may be a bit much for us at the moment, but say at the trade deadline, if things are still going bad for him in big-D, then I'd certainly hope Homer would inquire about him.

I definitely would love if the Flyers went after him. He doesn't really have anyone to play with in Dallas because their D-corp is terrible. He's a great PMD and I feel like that is one of the Flyers weaknesses right now.

So I guess the big question is what would it take?

It would be awesome to not have to give up a key forward currently in the lineup (Read, Voracek, Simmonds, etc). I just don't think Dallas would be willing to take a decent prospect + a pick.

I'd consider making Laughton the centerpiece of a deal.

He's probably talking about B schenn.

Its a bit different though, Golo is a young seasoned vet. He's as good as Carle at least. I'd be interested, depending on price.

Give him a week or two and see if he would be worth trading for.

The last thing this team needs is a knee-jerk reaction trade.

Bill M made a great point earlier today (yesterday I guess). One move we could look at is grabbing a defender like Runblad from the Coyotes. Hasnt stuck yet in the NHL but has the chance to be the puckmoving defender in the future. Obviously not a #1 atm, but I think a team like Coyotes (who are STACKED on D) can move him for a position of weakness at forward. Just comes down to who they move and who we give up.

I think we should make a play for him, for sure.

He's more mobile than Carle and more dynamic in the offensive zone with a better shot, as well.

He doesn't block shots as well, or make the first pass quite as well as Carle, but he's still good at both. And he's decent on D, to boot.

He doesnt impress me enough to give up Laughton for. Not saying I dont have interest. Just want to stop trading forwards and forward prospects for defenseman.
Besdies the Flyers would have to trade salary to make it work.

They wouldn't have to trade salary. They can LTIR Pronger, which would fit Goligoski just fine.

Laughton projects to be a 3rd line center and our organizational depth is at center (and the players playing center in NHL are all pretty young as well). Where else would you trade from to get a player like Goligoski organizationally?
