He's Ovechkin. Someone would figure a way out.

He'd help the Islanders get to the cap floor more quickly.

He gets paid in real world money though, can`t see the Islanders digging that.

If WSH eats part of the salary they can still fetch a great return for him...
That contract looks brutal though.. Most GMs would stay far away from it.

Maybe it's time to an 'All Ovechkin Talk' thread, they just keep coming every day.

Assuming BR waives his NMC if Caps ALSO gave NY large enough eating of the salary, then Richards (+) for Ovie (+) can work.

Talented sniper NY can use.
Will fit initially.
Torts will be gone then its up in the air
or
Torts stays, probably drives Ovie nuts and out of town...

Rangers get temporary cap relief (based on Caps adding). Odds are ultimately end of next year before deadline to use buyout expires, rangers use last buy out to pay off Ovechkin.

They would have had to use it anyway on Richards (or move too many other guys) to get cap room for McDonagh +.

So $$ considerations aside, if other things are equal, you get greater talent of Ovie for less for a year +. ASSUMING Ovie puts out, which he probably does at this point --- does he want to do a Lindsay Lohan on his career?

Well, they are over with Thomas.

Amazing ... over 11 million of the cap is going to

Thomas - 5 million
DePietro - 4.5
Yashin - 2.2 ... they still have two more years on the books with him too boot.

yeah right. Jackman is old, Elliot it overrated and is terrible as a #1 (see playoffs and now with Halak hurt) Perron is the only real piece and I love how you add a 2nd rounder...like they would even do it with a 1st in there. Good luck selling tickets Washington after that, like him or not people still pay to see him.

Gross. No way.

9.5 mil a year for Ovie? Are we letting Kessel walk or something?

Still no top line C, and our future #1 Dman is leaving as well?

Use the '13 pick to select a potential #1 C, let the prospects develop. Don't trade them

I almost said just Lucic and Krejci. I try to not just put in odds and ends because its a huge pet peeve of mine.

Maybe

Looch
Khohklachev
2nd rounder?

Good chance they will select the other with our pick.

I thought you guys were going to be making a run at the playoffs until the end. Not too likely to draft a TRUE potential #1 C in the middle of the first round.

I thought Ovechkin played pretty inspired hockey today, and he still was a shell of the player he was 3-4 years ago in games where he looked bored.

Two deals I could see happening:

To Nashville:

LW Alex Ovechkin
D Karl Alzner
4th Round Pick 2013

To Washington:

D Shea Weber
LW Sergei Kostitsyn
Rights to RW Alex Radulov

To Anaheim:

LW Alex Ovechkin
3rd Round Pick 2013

To Washington:

RW Corey Perry (sign-and-trade)
D Luca Sbisa

To me, an Ovy trade screams the need for a star-for-star swap. Both of these proposals are exactly that, and fits the Caps' needs on defense and scoring depth.
