McGuire bashes Habs for Bouillon signing on FAN 590

Pierre McGuire was at it again this morning, this time ripping the Habs for the Bouillon signing. He began screaming about Bouillon's lack of size and said the $1.85 million per was ridiculous, particularly in view of the fact that the signing was made prior to July 1, and that Mike Commodore signed for $1.2 million, asking rhetorically, "Who would you rather have, Mike Commodore at 6'5" 220 lbs, or Francis Bouillon at 5'7"?" (I am paraphrasing a bit here to save space).

To the credit of the Landry half of Landry and Stellick, Don disagreed with Pierre, saying that he really liked Bouillon, commenting on Bouillon's great skating and good decision making. Pierre just tuned him out. It is noteworthy that Pierre commented favourably on the Hal Gill signing, saying he would give the Leafs a "big body presence" and would compliment McCabe nicely. I think the Leafs overpaid, bigtime, for a #6 defenceman, and fell in love with Gill's size, ignoring his lack of mobility and skill.

I have never been a Pierre McGuire basher, and while not in love with Bouillon or his contract term or amount, and while I might have been inclined to let Bouillon walk, I can understand it and where Gainey was coming from. I think McGuire has really lost it when it comes to the Habs, he sounds less and less rational and less credible the more I hear him.

Bouillon worth his contract. He's maybe only 5'7'' but his 196 pounds of muscle and the energy he brings to the ice worth his contract, plus he makes Dandenault much better.

I hated the signing at first, but after seeing what some of the other d-men got, I love it.

He;s a 100% though. It was an idiotic signing anyway you look at it. I perosnally don't see where Gainey was coming from with this signing. He could've easily signed/traded for another 6th defensemen. I like Bouillon. He works hard, he is strong but he's not mroe than a 6 defensemen. 1.8 million under a salary cap is just horrible for a guy like that.

Did he bash his beloved Sens for the ridiculous Corvo signing?

Do I think the Habs re-signing Bouillion is a good move? Yes
Do I think the Habs overpaid for Bouillion? Yes

So, McGuire is correct in that the Habs overpaid.

I agree that the Bouillon signing was bad.

Pierre's out to lunch if he thinks Hal Gill will add a 'big body presence" though. Sure, he casts a big shadow, but so does a totem pole. And the totem pole has better poise.

You're wrong. Habs did not overpay. They paid market value when you look at the Pothier, Corvo, Gill signings.

If you want to make a case for upgrading the D at the expense of upgrading the offense, then make the argument. But Bouillon is not overpaid considering the market.

Most Habs fans dislike Pierre Mcguire because he is critical of the Habs most of the time, but you know what, he is usually not too far from the truth. After all, Pierre did have Steve Begin as one of his "monsters" for the past season.

McGuire is an idiot. I would take Bouillon over Commodore anyday. Commodore is overrated, and I'm tried of 'analysists' bashing small players, especially in the 'new' NHL where smaller players have the space to do what they do. Smaller players now a day are just as good, if not better, as a slow 6'5 goon like Commodore.

(I'm not bias for smaller players )

Has any of these talk radio hosts taken McGuire to task over his "Experience is everything in the playoffs" crap?

Thatt explains a lot. Pierre Mcguire seemed to like Bouillon last year. The first poster shoudl really change the title because everyone will think it's P. Mcguire.

He never worked for CKAC in his life.

And stop bashing CKAC. They broke many news. Including the Kovalev trade by Ron Fournier.

It's not their fault idiots misheard stuff or make up stuff and give them credit for it.
