I think Avs match anything that falls below this tier on compensation

Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 1st round pick, 2nd, 3rd

Here I think depending on where the team is projected to draft the Avs would consider the value.

If they reach their potential, that would be a solid deal IMO.

Mitchell has been fairly good actually, he could fit in to 3rd line for sure.

Phaneuf has massive contract and I think he is big time overhyped. Avs could get way better deal. Phaneuf is a meathead IMO

I can remember a lot of games against the Flames where I was happy Phaneuf was in the lineup because that meant he was going to run himself out of position against the top line at least a couple times a game. Pass.

I'd probably be okay doing it, but it's a huge risk trade. Pysyk could end up as nothing more than a second pairing offensive defenseman, and european prospects (even really talented ones like Armia) are always a bit scary to me because of the bust factor.

I wouldn't do it because Phaneuf only has this season and next under contract before hitting UFA. Asset wise alone, ROR has more value.

No he is not.

Too many people on different boards in HF don't have the full understanding of negotiations, and why they went south. I'm not saying that I do, I'm just saying that there are two sides to every story, and the Avalanche have a LONG history of not really negotiating with players, just issuing "Take it, or Leave it" offers.

I mean, let's look at the 5 year 17 million dollar offer. That's an AAV of 3.4 million a year, AND it buys the first year of UFA. There's NO WAY that O'Reilly should have accepted that offer. I think he would have signed that deal if the AAV was at about 4 (4.25 max) on that deal, specifically because buying a UFA year should bump up the deal.

But as Dater has recently pointed out, yes the two sides are talking, but there's no progress, because the Avs aren't moving off of their two offers they made, the 2 year 7 million or 5 year 17 million dollar offer.

Huh? He projects way more as a quiet, steady shutdown type than an offensive guy. His skating and defensive IQ are his best tools, far and away.

In any case... I'd love ROR in Buffalo, but I'm not sure if I would make that trade. We do desperately need a player like O'Reilly, but we also need what Pysyk and Armia (might) bring to the table: secondary scoring and a defenseman who's good at defense. Tough call...

Steen for ROR. Blues need a thrid line center, and with Steen off the books, blues can afford to give oreily something in 3-4million dollar range. Backes Berglund ROR would be pretty impressive at center.

I'm pretty sure that if RoR was willing to take somewhere in the 3-4 mil range he would have re-signed by now...

A) If he was looking for something in the 3-4 million dollar range he would have been signed already
B) Bad trade, O'Reilly is worth much more than Steen.
