I fully expect the Flames to sign a goalie today. With Kiprusoff's injury last night (even if he is traveling with the team and likely only day-to-day), they only have Leland Irving after dealing Henrik Karlsson. They could make an emergency recall of Laurent Brossoit from the WHL, but I have a feeling they will sign either Danny Taylor or Barry Brust to an NHL deal.
Not bad, eh?

A little old. But Albany signed young Russian defender Stefan Stepanov. H was highly touted before an incident at Sudbury which sent him home, and has bounced between the MHL and the KHL. Supposedly a slick skating offensive defenseman?
Per Capgeek, New Jersey has extended the contract of Harry Young. Young, who was scheduled to become an RFA this summer, signed a 1 year, 2-way deal worth $550,000 at the NHL level.

Odd signing. Usually when a player finishes his entry-level contract in the ECHL, he isn't rewarded with a new NHL contract.

Yeah, I was surprised at that, too. I'd heart last fall that Young was converting to forward because of the logjam of Devils defenders, so maybe that was a factor? Taking a quick peek at his stats, his offensive numbers are actually down (1 assist in 32 games in the ECHL) but with 50 PIM in 30 GP, his penalty minutes seem to be on the upswing. Maybe he's being converted into an enforcer-type player?
Robert Mayer (Montreal) signed with Biel for next year.
He was scheduled to become a RFA this summer.
Intresting that he would make the move to return so early with Montreal recently calling him up for the first time (Even if it was just to sit on the bench for the ill Carey Price).
What's even more interesting is that Mayer will replace Reto Berra who wants to head to North America. He could be the next Jonas Hiller, talented big goalie.

Habs just traded for Tokarski tho. Mayer knew he had no shot in Montreal.
