Looking forward to hearing the sell job Oilers fans put on Whitney here.

I could say the exact same thing about Green.

Well we had this thread over the summer a dozen times. Whitney Still is kind of old and not very good.

However Hemmer and Greens value increased due to thier staying healthy and proving they are still productive players.

Caps will not swap Green for Whitney...get it out of your heads now Oil. You dont want to hear the truth and if you get Green your losing a Shultz. If the caps get Whitney...lol your prob about to inherit another Shultz.

I'm afraid it's going to be a strong NO on this one from the Caps!

IMO Green > Hemsky (both simularly injuryprone, but Green's been the Caps best D this year, both ways)

and Brouwer >>>> over Whitney (isn't he the Oilers 7th D right now?)

green is playing well. better than he has in two seasons at least. the only question on him is health. it appears the groin injury is healed fully.

the caps are not going to trade green.

Green is still a relevant defenseman when healthy; Whitney - not so much.

You wouldn't need to be 'sold' on Green if you watched him play. Whitney on the other hand is struggling to stay in the lineup over the likes of Potter.

Green has rebounded this year. How about Brouwer and Hendricks for Hemsky and Whitney?

Where did you hear that? More like Potter and Fistric are rotating with him.

Whitney would clear waivers easily, nobody needs him, he's done.

So it's basically Hemsky for Mike Green. No way Washington bothers.

Hemsky > Green
Brouwer > Whitney

Rather have Hemsky and Whitney over Bouwer and Green Oilers say no thank no.

LOL ... was thinking about another thread when I typed this. We played Green last night and he was fine, except in the second period. Still, when healthy, he is a keeper despite his 6 million price tag, while Whitney is a healthy scratch for many teams.

From watching the games. If he's being rotated in and it of the lineup with those guys I consider that the same as struggling to stay in the lineup over them. You can argue the semantics if you like, but that doesn't change his level of play on the ice.

Hmm as an Oilers fan you would have to consider this.. It would suck to lose Hemsky though, the line he is on is basically our only 5on5 scoring we have had all year...

Acquiring Brouwer does not really do us any good though... you create a hole with Hemsky leaving so if and try and fill it with a 30-40 point player... When Hemsky is hurt and battling injuries (which thank god that isn't this year so far) he puts up 30-40 points easily..

I would rather package Whitney and some prospects/picks to a team for an upgrade on him. I don't think Washington is in the position to do that either, it would have to be a team who is on the outside of the playoff race looking in...Or a team who is really high on Whitney..

Whitney has sat one game this year, you make it sound like he is consistently being rotated in and out. They sat him two games ago to try and send him a message.. Potter and Fistric have been rotating with each other all year...

WAS is not going to move Green, Hemsky is playinger very good this year and is finally healthy, Whitney yes he is sucking out. I could see the Oilers moving Hemsky closer to the deadline. Whitney will be moved at the deadline.

As an Oilers fan, the perfect deal for me would be something like

Whitney
MPS
draft pick?

for

Mike Greene

Greene would be the perfect solution for our #2PP unit. Greene is a risk though because of his contract and injury history but if he can stay healthy it would be well worth it.

The only way this happens is if Washington continues to suck and decides to blow up the team...

The Oilers don't need another D right now, they need to trade one if anything. Like Green, but I also like Petry and personally I would like to see the Oilers play Petry.

The Oilers would have to add to the original proposal, due to the fact Whitney looks lost when he's on the ice of late, his play has stank.

I know Oil fans love Justin Schultz (and I do to on my fantasy team), but Green* is a grade A #1 PP QB. He's been awesome with the puck. Schultz will be there soon, though. He's fun to watch.

And btw - your trade here is nowhere close in value. MPS has done nothing in the NHL, Whitney is on his last legs and a draft pick doesn't come close to doing what Mike Green can.

People who hate on Green still just haven't watched him play. He's been our best player this year (not like that's saying much, but still), and he's 100% over the injury seeing as how he leads the team in ice time. He's miles better in his own end than what he used to be, and you can see the flashes of his offensive game coming back when he rushes the puck up the ice.
