I don't think a trade is necessarily imminent. Could be, but this is probably just for flexibility later on.

Bailey's due back from getting his knee scoped. He's expected to play this weekend.

Someone's got to be moved to make a spot for him. If I had to guess I'd expect either Colin MacDonald or Cizikas to get demoted, Finley to get waived or Reasoner to get traded for a late pick.

When Did I post that Snow doesn't need D? Was if before or after Snow made those moves?

MacDonald-Hamonic
Streit-Strait
Carkner-Visnovsky
Hickey-Finley
Well, by "Snow needs D", I meant "Snow needs legit NHL defensemen so the Isles aren't bottom-5 in GA/G if they have any hopes of even trying to get into the playoffs". I should be more clear.

Yesterday Vis took his team physical and today he was added to the roster. He's most likely playing his first game this weekend.

MacDonald -Hamonic have both played played solid top pairing mins for a few seasons now.25 yr old Strait has played well in the #4 spot, keeping his game simple. Mark Streit has played erracticly, but I don't see the isles demoting him from his spot on the 2nd pairing.

My only complaints with the top 4 is that Streit's been erratic and Streit/MacDonald/Hamonic overworked. I'm looking for Vis to ease the heavy mins of Streit/MacDonald/Hamonic.

If you're expecting Lubo to help your team defensively...

The Isles are 26th in goals against and in shots against. You have a ton of work to do on defense. Aren't the Isles trying to make the playoffs? They aren't doing it with the current defense+Lubo.

I'm expecting Vis to ease the heavy mins of my team's top 3 blueliners and add pts on the pp.

Just as I pointed out in my 1st or 2nd post about Nabby being overworked and his play slipping, I think Streit/MacDonald/Hamonic will play better when not overworked.

Vis and the return of Bailey to the pk are Snow's boosts to the lineup.

Reasoner to the Oilers for a 6th rounder.

Bailey's trade value isn't high. Isles are better off keeping him and seeing if his 17 pts in his last 19 games, was another tease.

Isles D needs Vis. Check back at the trade deadline.

I can see a trade between the Islanders and the Coyotes. I can see the Islanders having interest in some of the 'D' playing in Portland, or the Coyotes making room to promote those players.

Isles need to demote or trade a body from the NHL roster. Which Portland D would the isles see as an upgrade on their current top 5?

MacDonald-Hamonic
Streit-Strait
Visnovsky-Carkner
Hickey-Finley

Reinhart had a good NHL training camp. De Haan was their most poised blueliner before suffering the shoulder injury. Donovan was named to this seasons AHL all-star team. All will be fighting for a spot in camp.

Do I read that right, claimed his #4 defenseman? Teams with NHL-caliber defenses don't have #4 defensemen claimed off of waivers.

I thought they got TT because if Vis didn't report then they would be below the cap all this did was insure that no matter what they wouldn't be getting fined for not spending enough against the cap.

I won't mind Visnovsky in Toronto. Always liked him as a player.

I could see the Isles moving Okposo for a similar young defenseman.

Maybe Okposo for Goligoski++.

Maybe not. Snow would probably want a younger player coming back. Can't really think of anyone that would fit.

If Vis reports back to the NHL when the lockout ends, they go with a top 4 of
MacDonald/Hamonic/VisnovskyStreit.

Newsday says the isles had ex-Sound Tigers head coach Thompson and Cappy, heavily scouting the AHL during the lockout for potential waiver pickups. I doubt Strait, Hickey or Aucoin were unknown to the NYI coaches + scouts.

Best proposal in this thread. Goligoski's 27 yrs old and signed for 3-4 yrs, so he'd fit into their youth movement. KO's 24 and signed for 3 more seasons.

Isles should kick the tires on this in the summer, after Vis and Streit become ufas.

Nothing wrong with Strait. And it's not unheard of to find quality through the waiver wire. Guys are waived for a variety of reasons. Perhaps not the greatest example in light of his current level of play, but I doubt Los Angeles was unhappy with getting Quincey off waivers in 2008 when he put up 38 points for them.

Not to mention, the Islanders have had success with that method. Moulson is pretty good. And I guess the Sharks didn't have an NHL-caliber offense when they added Wellwood off waivers a couple seasons back.
