Getting Mike Greene out of Washington would be amazing for the Oilers. He would be the perfect guy for the #2 PP unit.. I wonder if they can package Whitney, MPS and maybe a pick for him?

He is playing healthy again and is back to his former self (or seems to be). Signed for this year plus two more..

What do you guys think?

I can't see Washington trading their #1 defenceman, especially for spare parts like Paajarvi, Whitney and draft picks.

All it will take is them sending one pro scout to watch an Oilers game, and a first hand viewing of Whitney, to nix that deal.

Also, what do you think it would take to get Mark Striet out of NYI? He is most likely not going to resign in the off season when he becomes a UFA..

NYI would need to replace that cap hit though to stay above the floor though...

Yeah I would lower expectations on what Whitney can get us.

I'd be fine with targeting one of Washington's d-men though.

I don't know what Streit is going to do. I have to think they keep him until they know what is up with Lubo. Cap floor is the issue, but I guess if Bulin gets hurt they could take him for salary.

Maybe they should trade for Luongo too.

Can you imagine if NYI had DiPietro, Nabokov, Thomas, and Khabibulin on their roster?

He is practicing with them today and should be good to go for their next game... Can't see that being a problem for them.. I wouldn't mind picking up him or Streit for the remainder of the year.. We need someone who isn't a huge liability in their own end (Whitney) but can still run the #2PP point..

Well he is only there because if he ever wants to play hockey again he has to show up.

At least he stopped the puck. Something he usually can't do.

Hockey Buzz thinks the Oilers and NYI are talking about Nino.. I would hope they are talking about Streit/Lubo instead..

Streit and Kruger have ties from the Swiss program. I wouldn't be shocked if Streit signed in Edmonton in July.

As for Green running our second PP unit. I think he would be redundant on this roster. We have 2 great puck movers in Schultz and Petry. I think the Oilers need more of an all around guy. Green isn't that guy.

Scuderi is a UFA I would like.

Smid-Petry
NSchultz-JSchultz
Scuderi-Streit
Fistric.

Definitely, a big bodied winger who has a lot of tread left on his tires is much more important than a 38 year old Lubo who wanted out of here the first time around and Streit who won't be traded anytime soon.

I dont think Petry is a very good option there, they want the Smid-Petry pairing to be the shutdown pair so they want to keep Petry off the power play so they can put that pairing on the ice right after the PP and keep them fresh..

Why would be looking to trade for Nino? Really doesn't make much sense.

What would you do with Nino? Who would he replace? Take MPS out of the line up and put Nino in for him? In the future Nino might be the better player but right now MPS is...

He wouldn't play in the top six..at least this year.. So he would have to replace either Smyth, Eager, Hartikinen, or Petrell...

Smyth and Petrell are too good at PKing that they won't be replaced... Eager and Hartki bring a physical presence...

I just don't see the fit... Unless he wants to play in OKC for the year..

I really don't know why we would be in the conversation for any forwards unless they're centermen.
