Took a little break from the Starrcade '92 buildup to focus on the time around WWF Survivor Series 1996. Been watching some Raw and Superstar shows leading up to the PPV, and I'm going to pop in Survivor Series tonight.

Absolutely LOVED the Bret Hart/Steve Austin feud.

Wife and I are staying in tonight and having a quiet Saturday night. Pretty crappy weather out there.

So, I'm Currently watching WWF Superstars from January, 23rd 1993 (Undertaker, Bam Bam Bigelow, Kamala, Marty Jannetty in action) and then I plan on popping in the Royal Rumble which took place the following night. I remember it being a lackluster Rumble, but I've been in a bit of an early 90's kick lately..

Great thread! I posted this in another thread, but my friends and I get together every 6-8 weeks for Classic Wrestling Night. Here is a list of all the matches we have watched: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...J14/edit?pli=1

The upcoming fight card (so far):

- Masahiro Chono vs Great Muta; WCW/New Japan Supershow, 1/4/93
- Lance Storm & Chris Candido vs Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney; ECW Wrestlepalooza '98
-The Nasty Boys vs. Public Enemy Clash of the Champions XXXII January 23, 1996
-Chigusa Nagayo vs. Dump Matsumoto (hair vs hair) - 11/7/86 (I guess there was more than one?)
- Bret Hart vs. Jerry Lawler (With all pre-match shenanigans) - Summerslam 1993
- Antonio Inoki vs. Big Van Vader - NJPW 1/4/96
- Greg Valentine Match
- Manami Toyota and/or Aja Kong match
- Col. Parker/Sister Sherri Las Vegas Wedding
- Randy Savage vs. Tito Santana for IC Belt - 2/24/86

It's not "classic" because it just happened in August, but it's the only thread suitable.

Brock Lesnar vs Triple H (SummerSlam) - ****

I remember being let down after watching this match on first viewing and had it at a ***, but just watching it now, this is a great match. Great physicality and intensity, good story with Lesnar going after the arm and HHH finding a weakness in Lesnar with his stomach. Lesnar's selling was masterful for the work on his stomach. Great match.

I have Bad Blood (1997) on VHS. It's the one where Kane debuts. Watched that a few weeks ago. Awesome.

Just watched this. Remember almost the whole thing. Pretty awesome other than the fact HHH won.

Also the last couple eliminations towards the end feel rushed. Kane, Big Show, RVD and Booker T all were out quick and lasted shorter than like Al Snow and Chuck Palumbo, among others.

Chris Benoit vs Triple H vs Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania 20) - *****

Greatest triple threat match ever, IMO.

I was home sick yesterday and watched A LOT of wrestling. My favorite wrestling as a lad was SNME, as it was one of the few times I was allowed to stay up that late. What a very well produced show. In 1:30, they had 5 good matches with lots of pre AND post-match interviews. I have the "Best of SNME" discs, which I feel are absolutely essential, but it really doesn't compare to actually watching a full episode. Here is the one I watched yesterday:

* the intro always gets you pumped up to watch the entire program.

but a good Juventud vs a heel Ultimo Dragon.

You know what's quite fun and actually pretty cool?

Watching an event from my collection, then reading the PW Torch Newsletter that covered the event (review, fan reactions, editorial thoughts etc..) then listening to an old episode of Pro Wrestling Focus (radio show from early 90's) where they talk about the event.

In a way it's sort of a mind-****. Makes you feel like you're back in time.

Maybe it is smaller arenas at the time but the crowds are insane compared to now.
The way they react to absolutely everything makes watching them so much better in my opinion.

Currently watching some Raw shows from April 1993. Friar Ferguson (poor Mike Shaw, always got stuck with horrendous gimmicks), Damien Demento, Skinner, Papa Shango, Berzerker, Giant Gonzales. Man, some of them gimmicks.

Will likely pop in WCW Clash Of The Champions XXII tonight.

Currently watching the build-up to The Great American Bash 1997, which will culminate with the PPV some time this weekend probably.

1996 - 2002 were some incredible years to be a wrestling fan. I miss those days.
