the value there isn't even close. Bickel is a bum. Boyle is pretty useless and from the looks of it Rangers fans are ready to boot him out the door. Del Zotto while being promising offensively, is a detriment to his team in the defensive zone which is not something the Avs need. They already have enough issues playing defensive hockey (poor varly)
No thanks.
While O'Reilly is not chopped liver, high end Ds available now are worth more, and more importantly, we can't deal unless there is are real upgrade, not just a need for a need, which is more palatable coke for pepsi.
Would not be comfortable with Staal OR Skjei, let alone Staal + Skjei.
Have counterproposal in my immediately prior post.
Funny joke... Boyle + for O'Reilly. I almost took you seriously.
This is the kind of deal I would consider but we wouldn't trade Downie (and he's out for the season).
I would be on board with :
Staal+Boyle (+/- pick)
for
RoR+Wilson (+/- pick)
So basically a tweak of what you proposed.
I like this, but would like to keep Wilson, and there seems to be interest in Aittokallio. With Varlomov being young and looking solid along with our other Goalie prospects, I'd much rather build around
We can't really afford to lose Del Zotto right now..
What about something around Stepan for O' Reilly +?
A) You have the plus on the wrong side
B) We wouldn't even do it then unless it was a significant plus which you probably wouldn't want to cough up (with good reason).
I see Avs asking for a Kreider+ for the services of ROR. But cmon NYR, havent you screwed up your roster enough by signing Nash. This guy was brought in for secondary scoring but now on the first line. Dubinsky, Anisimov(cant spell) and not signing Prust really hurt this team.
I would rather have Wilson instead of Aitokallio(sp?) in a Staal deal. We're in all out Cup win mode, we could just trade up at the draft and pick Fucale.
Also, without Wilson we have a hole in the top-4. I'd prefer Stralman stay out of it. And can you throw in ROB or SOB? Need a LHD for 3rd pairing.

ROB is right handed.
If you moved Staal + Skjei + Boyle I'd gladly do O'Reilly + Wilson + O'Brien and even the difference on our end.

In other words, "I haven't seen any of these guys play, but I HAVE read some HF posts about them, so I'm going to weigh in as if I have any idea what I'm talking about."
Rangers fans in this thread--please stop entertaining Avs delusions. Sather wouldn't touch an RFA hold-out like O'Reilly with a 10 foot pole.
Avs fans, if RO'R has so much apparent value, pay him what he wants and enjoy the bad contract. Positionally, the Rangers don't need him. Contractually, the Rangers don't want him.
Again--Consistency--he ain't got it. For the Avs fans claiming that you "could just see the offense waiting to happen" when he was only putting up totals in the mid 20s, I'll tell you what I DID see last year. I saw a guy who put up a lot more points because he found himself on a line with Landeskog. Until he can show that last season was a product of HIS ability and not Landeskog's nobody is going to give you close to what you want.

That's why Landeskog lit the world on fire when he played with Duchy, right?
Face it, you know just as little as the people you mocked. Granted, I did already say I don't see NYR making sense, but a conversation was struck up so it was maintained.

Landeskog was a factor in just under half of O'Reilly's points last season. That's a fairly large percentage. Frankly, I'm not even arguing that "Landeskog was the only reason" or anything else along those lines. My point, as it's been form the very beginning, is that O'Reilly doesn't have the track record to bring back any of what you guys expect. He's got a pair of 3rd line production seasons and one above average season that may or may not have had more to do with his line-mate than anything else. He's a question mark, even without the contract debacle. One does not trade players with 2+ seasons of consistency (Stepan, MDZ or Staal) for a gamble. From a management standpoint, it's just stupid.
That said, there are stupid GMs out there. If you DO end up trading O'Reilly, I wish you the best in fleecing one of them.
