Flyers moved both Richards and Carter. They may be struggling in the early going but they acquired a hell of a young core with the bolded from deals w/ Carter and Richards:

Giroux
Couturier
B. Schenn
Voracek
Simmonds

Laughton
Read
Coburn
L. Schenn

Hypothetically:

Ottawa Trades: Jason Spezza

Colorado Trades: Ryan O'Reilly, David Jones, Duncan Siemens

Ottawa has a solid young foundation starting from the back end.

Karlsson
Cowen
Siemens
Turris
O'Reilly
Zibinejad

There is also a solid supporting cast with Silfverberg, Jones, Greening, Michalek, Smith, Methot.

This is just a view from a non sens fan.

He was the 1b center after the Yashin years, usually played with Alfie on his wing and shifting lefties. Bonk, Hossa and Arvedson made up the 1a line.

I really think people who want Spezza traded either never watched the Sens in those days, or completely forget what it was like to have those two guys as your top centers. Both solid number 2s and exceptional 3s, but not first line material.

So 2 times in the last ten years, one of which was 8 years ago? Mike Richards was moved because Philly had someone there to take his place, and rumored locker room issues. Moving Thornton would have been a colossal failure had Chara not chosen to sign in Boston, the return was a pittance.

Not only Chara, they signed Savard too. I don't remember the last time a team signed 2 of the best players available at their respectable positions(Outside of this year) and both of them at that stage were among the best in the league.

It's like the Parise and Suter situation. It'll make ANY team recover from losing 1 star forward.

If Ottawa had a center of Giroux's calibre on the team I might agree with you. I honestly don't think Turris can be a 1st line center

Do you risk rankling him by offering him below 7.0M or do you start drafting/looking for another centre?
Im sure one of these years you'll be right. Eventually Spezza will not be good enough and you'll be there to tell everyone you knew it all along even though you said it 10 years in a row.
Its got to the point where you now have to project out.

You must be so disappointed he's been so good for so long.

You mean Deer Antler Spray?

EDIT: Also http://senschirp.ca/blog/item/893-bo...-to-binghamton

Spezza was playing injured since the season started...still point per game and looked real good in the Pittsburgh game. Nice to see him giggle a bit about his wife shovelling the snow. If he can get his back to 100% I think we see him be just as good as, if not better than last year, when he returns.

Great to hear that, thanks for posting.

It's amazing he was at a PPG pace with a bad back.

Spezza skated today so that's pretty good news.

Renaud Lavoie ‏@RenLavoieRDS
Jason Spezza (back) skated this morning before his teammates. #senators

Good news. Any chance of him returning sooner than expected?

Awesome news, I still believe that if we can get him back by April 1st..that we'll squeak in.....and hopefully by that time Karlsson's rehab will be on schedule as well.

back in about a month according to dregger, wouldn't it be epic if he returned on the 30th, at home against the Leafs on HNIC?..just in time for the final charge into the post season...

Spezza's rehab takes another positive step; could be back in 2 to 3 weeks. My story on Sportsnet.ca http://*******/ZrwwZJ
This is way-ish ahead of schedule so it's nice to see things improving on that front.
