You're right.

If the Habs still have hard times making the playoffs, Plekanec and Markov are the only vets I would absolutly keep.

Gionta would be the first to go, if it was me. He still has value for a team wanting to win a cup this year, but he will be worst and worst every year from now. Good trade bait. Same for Cole.

Gorges, I'm not sure. Valuable part of any team, even if I do think he's overestimated on this board.

What about bringing up Mike Blundin to replace White?

Best solution right now. There's also Gabriel Dumont that could come in and try his best, adding also a little québecois factor to the team.

Maybe it would be time to package White and Weber (or Kaberle) and send them to Columbus for Boll, or to Colorado for McLeod.

Gorges is a must keep. Too bad, he is not 3 inches taller.

I never get when people call Plekanec old and act like Gorges is another youngster. As if when you turn 30 you magically start losing all your ability. Considering Gorges' entire game is based around sacrificing his body for the cause, he's probably aging much quicker than Plekanec anyway.

Of the vets, keeping Plekanec and Markov should come before anyone else.

Also, I love how there's talk about selling everyone off and tanking after losing 2 games in a row.

You're right.

Detroit Red Wings have made a living with 30+ y.o players on their roster.

Clearly, this team is hopeless. Sell everyone.

You don't want a team of nothing but 30 year olds, but having a few among your core doesn't automatically give you a year to win or everyone's knees explode. Plus you got to look at what kind of players you are talking about - power forwards and grinders age much quicker than players who rely on their intelligence or skill.

The Habs should easily be 8-2 in their first 10 games.

They are already a way better team than last year's one.

Those two losses are painful to swallow, but mathematically we are still a playoffs contender, nonetheless.

No disrespect to Diaz but Gorges would benefit from playing with Subban again 5 on 5 and on the PK. However, I think in the long run giving Diaz this icetime and testing him out versus tougher competition will bode well. Gives the team a better idea of his capabilities.

you're right. Our best four d-men should play on the top-two pairings.

Bouillon and Diaz are "specialists" that should play between 15 and 18 minutes, no more.

I don't get why we don't have Subban and Gorges playing 25+ minutes a game yet together, that's still our best even strength pairing. Gorges is not untouchable as far as I'm concerned but we already know he compliments Subban perfectly, plus they will relieve some burden off of Markov and Emelin who have been making some mistakes lately. Diaz hasn't been great lately, I still think he has a bit more upside but I'd rather just play it safe for now.

I guess the only concern is a Diaz-Boullion pairing would be completely incapable of clearing the crease.

White is starting to remind me of the bruins players. His fighting and dumb penalties are mirror images of their tough guy attitude and I don't like it. Hurts the team.

That is why, I called them "specialists". Play them less and against weaker opposition (less skilled). Diaz will get his PP minutes and Bouillon, more PK minutes.

Both teams would have to add a pretty juicy pick(2nd), those deals make no sense on paper.

A paraphrase from Rob Ray, one of my favorite tough guys, after the White's 4 minute penalty. "That's not a fun position to be in... trust me I know" Something close to that, in any case, had me gasping for air

White has some good tools to be an NHLer but seemingly no toolbox...as in judgment.

Any player doing taht would be dumb but one already on "probation" for 2 prior incidents is not smart enough to be an NHLer.

If we could move Gorges and Desharnais to get O'reilly i'd do it for sure. We could obtain a player like Douglas Murray for cheap via trade and get Diaz,Subban, Emelin playing more minutes.

Budaj actually made big saves on the Sabres pp during the 2nd period where the Sabres could have easily potted 2 goals. YESSSS!! i know he let in 2 really horrible bad goals and looked way off on some shots, but Ryan White once again did something very dumb and stupid and costed us a goal.

But ultimatley the player who won the game for BUF was mister Steve "Coward" Ott, who drew White into taking a 4min roughing penalty and with 2 seconds left kicked Budaj's pad in the net to get the puck loose for Vanek.

And when Ryan White tried to fight Ott, John Scott actually grabbed Ryan White for a couple of seconds, which should be a misconduct or a penalty of some sort but unfortunately the zebras must have had there blinders on...
