Does anyone know if there is a hurdle (like 10 games or a month) before we can send some of the waiver pick ups to the minors without losing them? Just wondering if this move and the Martinek move are a bit of an embellishment to buy some time or if they are legit.
Maybe i am over thinking but the timing of the two guys getting activated just when two guys go on IR just seems convenient, especially if we risked losing a player that we would want to send down.

Its 30 days or they have to be offered back to the original team first. Either way, they still have to pass through waivers iirc.
I like Carkner too...not the greatest of d-men, but the guy was just stepping into the role of "protecter" of the younger guys. Good tough veteran. Well, I guess the smart thing to do was carrying so many d-men, like they were doing. Martinek has been solid and I'm hoping we see more of what Hickey can bring.
too bad, was looking forward to him coming back, he definitely serves a purpose as size is one thing we lack overall.
Hickey seems to be improving every game (I willl be glad to eat any negative comments I had about his defense early on if this keeps up), Martinek has looked fairly steady in his brief return and even Finley's game has improved somewhat recently..
That being said, if and when Carkner comes back, who goes? If it is Finley, do we need to expose him to waivers if we send him down? Maybe Martinek has a convenient flare up of a lower body injury to make room?
I thought both he and JJ were skating and close to returning? Our defense hasn't been bad and Martinek is scoring, which is odd. Who sits when Carkner is back?
Streit, Viz, Amac, Hammertime, Carkner...Martinek or hickey?
Hickey has been playing well and deserves a spot. Martinek is experienced, sound defensively and has scored a bit lately. I guess it all depends on what's happened most recently but I think Carkner has to be sent down for a conditioning stint. Can't risk having him be a liability. The games mean too much now being 2pts out of a spot.
