there's no way of knowing that. i meant name one elite, young two-way defender on the Pens roster RIGHT NOW.

if you can't do that, that's because there are no other elite, young two-way defenders on the Pens. i like what Despres can do so far but he's not Letang.

Think Tavares.

How much do you watch the Pens? Despres won't be Letang in 1 or 2 years. Letang has such a rare combination that if you really knew both players you would know Despres isn't going to be the next Letang.

If anything, Despres game reminds me more of Michal Roszival at his peak...

You don't trade your best D if you want to run for the Cup.

Beating the Caps right now borders on winning an AHL game. No offense to their fans but the team is in absolute disarray. Letang is far too valuable a player to make any observations on over a one game outing. Not to mention does Pittsburgh really need more scoring depth?

Letang is worth way more than those so called "endless cries." For as much as you say Despres could be the next Letang, Beau Bennett "could" be the next "Neal" for the Pens.

Kunitz and Dupuis are fine for Crosby. If anything, the Pens may need to look for another winger for the Malkin/Neal line but so far Boychuck has looked good.

Yes, get him his own Neal. Not a Patrick Kane. You just need to simmer down and think this through. Neal is not the F equivalent to Letang on this team and that is todays 40g All Star Neal. What most seek to acquire is streaky "let us give you a good Dman free with him" Dallas Neal.

Why the **** would you trade Hall for Letang. No sense at all.

Closer but I would rather not. OEL would be a better fit.

Just like trading J. Staal was crazy talk and then reality sets in. See you in the summer when you are Letang-less.

Not moving. There are only a handful of players i'd considering sending him for and none of them are available on their respective teams. Those are:

Drew Doughty

Shea Weber

Erik Karlsson

Steven Stamkos

That would be it. Doughty and Karlsson would be a somewhat lateral move. Weber is a different breed of dman and Stamkos is the only forward that would interest me in moving the #1 defenseman on the team for....

And you could not see it coming after reading how much everyone liked Chukcha´s original idea, eh?

Saying your young star defenseman is no longer needed based upon 1) a single game being played without him against a team playing bad hockey at the moment and 2) the prospects in the system panning out to their potential is definitive, is just so incredibly short sighted it is unbelievable. I don't see how this idea can even be remotely defended.

Obviously Letang is with Crosby and Malkin as "Untouchable", but just to play along:

Bobby Ryan & Cam Fowler for Kris Letang

This is probably the best offer i've seen. I'd consider it but I don't know enough about Fowler to be really comfortable having him as a top 3 dman

I have watched almost all pens games last several years. I perfectly remember Letang in his second season (as Despres now). He had showing no more than Simon now. Accidently he was placed on the top pair due to Gonch and Whitney injuries, and resulted a 10-goal, 33-point season. Not fantastic numbers at all. Why can't Despres develop as Letang in the same conditions? I'm not a huge Despres fan, i'm huge Shero fan . His D-farm works unstoppable and that's really a great achievment.
