Anyway, I fear the hawks. If this wasnt a 48 game season I would say they starting off so hot is going to leave a spent team by the playoffs, but they could realistically keep this momentum up.

Having seen some of their games, I don't think their play is as dominating as their record suggests. I think they've had some great luck on their side and some of their stats seem too high to be sustainable for the duration of even a shortened season. Regardless, I'm sure it's great to be a Hawks fan right now knowing your team has picked up points in every game they've played so far this season. Even if the pace is unsustainable, banking points like that right now will definitely help if the team happens to go into a bit of a lull.

Edit: Do the Hawks have a healthy line up or have they lost anyone to injury? I've been reading about a lot of injuries but I haven't come across any injuries to any key players on the team - which is also a huge boost for the team.

Carcillo and Rozsival are both out right now and we think Montador is on his deathbed. Other than that Bolland missed a game or two. We've been fortunate considering the condensed schedule.

Carcillo and Rozsival are both injured (not as if those are crippling injuries though).

As a Canucks fan I loathe to say anything nice about the Blackhawks, so I guess they are doing pretty well at the moment

Now obligatory slandering of their team, no way Crawford and Emery are as good as their stats, and they aren't a tough to play against physical team anymore which will hurt them in the playoffs.

but damn 9-0-2 and 7-0-2 on the road........just damn.

Not to take anything away from them, but the Hawks are one of the teams I expected to have an advantage early in the season since a considerable number of their players played during the lockout at a competetive level, either overseas or in the Minors. Much less rust to shake off.

Overseas: Kane, Bickell, Stalberg, Frolik, Hjalmarsson
AHL: Shaw, Leddy, Kruger, Saad, Bollig

Same goes for the Bruins:
Overseas: Krejci, Seguin, Chara, Bergeron, Paille, Peverley, Boychuk, Ference, Seidenberg, Rask
AHL: Bourque

and for the Sharks:
Overseas: Thornton, Pavelski, Couture, Galiardi, Greiss, Niemi, Braun
AHL: Wingels, Irwin, Sheppard
ECHL: Clowe, Gomez

Based on that I'm actually much more impressed by the way teams like the Penguins, Ducks and Canucks held their own in the first ~10 games. Those teams had barely any players in actual game shape at the start of the season.

Though I have to admit that a team like the Sabres totally contradict this theory, with the number of guys they had playing overseas:
Vanek, Pominville, Ennis, Ehrhoff, Sekera, Sulzer, Hecht, Myers

But overall I think it's no coincidence the standings are what they are at this point. As of now they are reflecting the actual strength of a team only to a certain degree.

Anyway, the Hawks were off to a great start. Credit where credit is due.

Actually Clowe just coached in the ECHL. He didn't actually play.

My bad. Didn't know that.

But even if you leave him out of the equation, my point still stands.

Even if there is some truth to McLlwain's theory, that advantage should have been negated somewhat with the road-heavy schedule. That makes it more impressive, since no one (even Hawks fans) thought that 9-0-2 was even possible. Most of us were just hoping for about 14 points during the first 12 games and try to get fat off the big home stretches the Hawks have coming up. Never did I think they'd start like this.

Eh, still early. The Rangers might have improved their depth with JT Miller. Sure he's 19, but even at 19 looks like he might be better than Boyle has been in his life. That's not even so much of a praise for Miller as it's a shot at Boyle. Plus Kreider has played better. Also getting rid of Rupp for Powe, while not a big move improves the 4th line (as does moving Boyle there if Torts doesn't scratch him). We not have a legit 3rd line in Kreider-Miller-Callahan and a legit 4th line in Powe-Halpern-Asham/Boyle. Our bottom 2 lines to start the year were a joke. We also broke up the overrated Nash-Richards-Gaborik line that had 2 great games and sucked the rest of the time. So our #2 line will have 1 or 2 of those players. On paper the Rangers look as deep as last year's team with better top end talent (unfortunately the top end talent and Stepan haven't played nearly as well as last year).

The road-heavy schedule might actually have helped them to bond and come together as a team quicker than teams with home-heavy schedules. When you're on the road there's not much else to focus on then the task at hand.

But again, credit where credit is due. It is a great start whichever way you look at it.
