New Jerset cap trouble scenario

Currently the Devils has a team salary of 43.48M. with 17 players including Malakhov, Mogilny and McGillis.

And Scott Gomez, Paul Martin and Brian Gionta are not resigned yet. So it's obvious that the DEVILS HAS to make a trade.

Who do you think Bob Gainey should go after and at what price?

I would go after Paul Martin and Scott Gomez. My proposal would be

To MTL: Gomez-Martin
To NJ: 1st(07), Ribeiro, prospect

what do you think and what would you do?

Seeing as Lou locked up Elias AND made Chara a $7M/year contract offer, I think he's got something up his sleeve.

That is not enough to get both Gomez and Martin. Maybe just for Gomez, sure. And I'd love such a deal.

Personally I think they'll try to move Gionta and/or Madden. But they will need to do something, so we'll have to wait and see.

Lou will probably look at the west conference when it's gonna be time for him to unload salaries... the habs will likely fight for the same playoff spot has the devils so Lou will definately not help the Habs...

Gionta alone will probably be looking for a deal similar to the one signed by Tanguay (5M$)... I think they're gonna trade Madden and Gionta.

Do you really believe he still would have signed Elias if Chara had taken the 7m offer? I figure it was one or the other, not both.

lol, no he didn't.
why would chara go to a loser like boston if he could have gotten a similar contract from a team that has proven that they can win?

Peter Chiarelli would be a reason. Chara feels that since Chiarelli has taken over the Bruins that the Boston org will be run like Ottawa's.

He was actually offered more by other teams.

where's the evidence that he got better offers?
apparently chiarelli wasn't even allowed to talk to chara or his agent.

We had 23 teams contacting us. We had 15 teams make offers and seven teams over $7 million (San Jose, Los Angeles, Edmonton, Washington, Toronto, New York Rangers and New Jersey).
I haven't read anything that indicates that Chara got a better offer anywhere.
