And it's probably not your job to know.

Ellerby is an NHL defenseman. The type that you can't get with a 5th round draft pick.

Oh well. I'm sure Tambi has some other irons in the fire.

Didn't he just get Fistric? And judging by the above comparisons, we have plenty of those.

Think Ellerby is getting the Thomas Hickey treatment. People want to give him a chance because of where he was drafted.

He's played NHL games. If he played NHL defense, I imagine his worth would be more than a 5th

The Panthers have some smart heads in management. Why would they just give him away if he was good option?

Ellerby is a much better skater than Teubert or Plante. He can play both sides too.

I'd say he's a solid #5/6.

The Panthers had 8 defensemen on 1-way contracts. He was the odd man out.

I don't know dnicks, odd man out or not there are a lot of teams looking for d help. Have to think if he had any potential that teams would be jumping all over him, especially with injuries.

Don't we have just as many? When Peckham and Fistric are healthy (which should be a couple weeks) we'll have that many too.

I'm not saying he has potential to be better.

I just think he's an alright bottom pairing defenseman.

I guess the Panthers use 14 forwards rather than 8 defense.

They actually have 8 defense on the roster even with Ellerby gone, although Caruso is out for a bit.

Thought people would lose their stuff if Tambo tried another Barker Reclamation Project.

Dallas up 2-0 against Anaheim. If the Stars win then we get bumped out of a playoff spot. Hopefully today isn't the last time the Oilers occupy a spot in the top eight this season...

I suspect that Dallas won't sustain it. I mean how many people predicted them and Anaheim to be up there this early?

Obviously you misunderstood the problem most people around here had with the Barker signing.

The Oilers had MAJOR problems on defense and needed to add at least one, but probably two, legitimate top 4 defensemen (including a #1) in order to have adequately addressed the holes on denfense that they had. Barker was Tambellini's solution to the Oilers lack of top 4 defensemen.

Right now, the Oilers can afford to take risks on players like Barker because they have their top 4 in place. Though in Barker's case, it was clear to anyone with half a brain that he wasn't an NHL defenseman even before we signed him.

The Islanders are sitting Marty Reasoner. The Islanders are getting some healthy bodies back in the lineup and might be willing to unload Reasoner for table scraps(ie a 7th round pick)

East is so pathetic. Senators somehow lose for the second time to the Winnipeg Jets who probably wish they played the Sens 20 times/year.

Both these clubs are likely falling.

The East has been pathetic for years, which makes the teams that don't make the playoffs (I'm looking at you, Sabres) even more pathetic.

Also it seems almost every night there's a 3 point game in the West if not two or three...

That will cure what ails us. Another past his prime, waste of a roster spot.

For those that were saying that the Habs are better this year... Watch this first period. Total snoozer with so many bad plays.
