The team struggled mightily without Letang last year. While this team is playing much better on the back end than last year's incarnation, that sample size was much larger than last night's game.

we should sit one player on our team every game and if we win the next game, we trade the player we sat. Thats the only way to build a champion

so we trade Letang because we have a guy who MIGHT be Letang? Why not trade the guy who MIGHT be Letang since we already have a Letang?

guys, guys, i'm not calling nor offering any Letang trade, just asking: is it worth to trade him for a 1st liner (perennial 35-40G scorer at least).

cuz in this case we get a return who MIGHT be potentially a 1st liner

Again, they are not the same player. Just because Shero drafts guys like Despres, Morrow, Pouliot, Maata, Harrington, and they have Demoulin, etc does not mean they are all going to turn into Letang.

Name me the other Kris Letang's in the NHL? Name me Erik Karlsson's in the NHL? There may be one or two similar players and that's out of a 30 team league.

I think the reasoning in the initial post is terrible.

Edit:

and it continues

Whitney was bad and Gogo, while useful, was the 5th best D on the team at the time.

Gaborik + 2014 first + Brady Skjei for Kris Letang. This has to be the most valuable return in this thread.

Staal-Letang
McDonagh-Girardi
Del Zotto-Stralman

I'm sure Shero is itching to get another "1st liner" when he already has Malkin, Crosby, and Neal.

Guess the poster does not realize how important defensemen are to hockey games and winning the cup.

The Kings have Doughty.
The Bruins have Chara.
The Blackhawks have Keith.
The Pens have Letang and had Gonchar.
The Redwings had Lidstrom, Rafalski, and Kronwall.
The Ducks had Niedermayer and Pronger.

Getting the point yet? You want the Pens to compete for a cup the next year or two with Martin and Orpik as their top guys?

it's an even bigger no since it's to a direct rival

btw i like the value in the earliest offer in this thread better: from OTT, Michalek + Silfverberg + Ceci + 1st 2013

If anything, Despres game reminds me more of Michal Roszival at his peak...
He doesn't watch the Pens at all based on his comments and rationale.

Closer but I would rather not. OEL would be a better fit.
More like why the hell would Pittsburgh trade Letang for Hall.

no, your follow-up was in response to us saying no. when i say 'us', i'm referring to the Pens fans in this thread who don't agree with the OP anyway, which is pretty much every Pens fan in here except the OP.

Or like how Sidney Crosby would want to play in a bigger market/go back to Canada/play for his favorite boyhood team and would never sign long-term in Pittsburgh and then reality set in. See you in 12 years.

Letang doesn't have a brother playing for another team so I think it's safe to say this isn't comparable to the Jordan Staal situation in any respect.

also, Staal's role wasn't even close to the importance of Letang's current role.

there is no way you paid attention to anything Niskanen did this season (or last season) before his injury. your post clearly shows that.

The delusions are giving me hives.
