Luongo brought his team 1 game away from winning a Cup. He also won an Olympic gold.

He's a damn good goalie that only got beat by a slightly better one.

If Rask turns out to be anything like him, Bruins are in excellent shape.

I think it would work - we really haven't seen a full body of work from Tuukka yet so I think he would agree to it.

I did

edit: but Thomas had more playoff exp. and very very good playoff numbers even before 2011 if you look them up. So even though he was not winning he was doing his job. If Rask did the same and got zero goal support I would consider that proving himself.

I honestly expect him to take a bit of a discount. 5 years @ 4.5-4.75? maybe wishful thinking but he doesn't seem like a guy who is particularly motivated by money.

I think Chia will make a fair offer and Rask will accept it. Folks here will argue about whether it was good or bad for the team or for Rask, but in the end he will be a Bruin for a good while to come, and with a little luck fame and fortune for all will follow.

As difficult as it might be, folks should sit back, relax and enjoy it.

Rask did nothing close to what Thomas had done at that point.

Hopefully they don't offer Rask a long term deal. Starting to think that the goalie carries minimal importance when you have a defensive system like the Bruins or Blues.

He did out play Miller and beat Buffalo, got up 3-0 on Philly with a depleted line-up infront of him.

He'll get 5 mil. He might turn out to be much better than that. Glad we got Thomas off the books so now we don't have to worry too much about resigning our core guys. As much as Timmys decision not to play this year bugged me I guess its worked out pretty good

With the cap coming down I'd expect his deal to be adjusted accordingly. 5x5 sounds long and generous and old cap style. With tha cap coming down i'd say it ends up closer to 3 at 4.5

The new cap next year is going to have an impact of a deal for Rask. So far....he's earned a 5 mil/year contract, but I can see him in the 4-4.5 area with a bit of a longer term because of it.

Along those lines......how nice is it to cheer for a sports team whose GM appears to be proactive, invested in putting a quality product on the ice and getting good deals done that satisfy both the player and ownership?

Compared to some of the other sideshows out there, Bruin fans are damn lucky to have Peter Chiarelli running things in the FO.

Luongo won Olympics vs USA for canada ,And he shut Bruins out twice in the finals.Vancouver got buillied a bit by bruins asnd wore down but missing a top pairing D man and then ROme hurt abd too,,he good goalie.Rask is too and Bruins best option for long time so they best get him locked in now,

It's still nice to know they want to do it early and hopefully avoid a conflict in the summer.

Should Chiarelli have let Rask continue on this torrid pace and possibly win a Vezina before he offered him an extension? He's saving himself at least $2-3M AAV by doing this now.

I love Rask think he could range from a solid starting goalie to a top 3 goalie in the league. All depends on him and his emotional stability. Physically he already is a top tier goalie in the NHL, but he has shown this season and in the past that sometimes he gets rattled. Not a good thing for a goalie imo. Dont get me wrong i love his intensity but I think he needs to channel that emotion to avoid events like in that philly collapse (not blaming him), or in the video's of him losing it and throwing things on ice, or sometimes staring down a Dman that was responsible for the goal. Bottom line, would love to get him signed long term right now for anywhere in the 4-5.5max range and really work on him psychologically to make him into that uber elite stable stopper.
