Yes.

He was like 7th in the AHL in scoring during the lockout. He's what 21?

Call me when he's 25 and not performing.

He's producing at 41 point pace and it's clear he's not playing as well as he could. Is that bad for a for 21 year old playing in his first full season?

Meh. There's like three guys in that draft that are really performing at a top level. The kid is young. He may not be the toast of the class, but I don't think you can count him out at this point.

Everyone develops at different levels and guys have different situations to enter. He was blocked from the NHL in LA, and he doesn't get the ice time here that he might have received elsewhere.

Which is in part because he hasn't played well.

This might sound weird, but Brayden Schenn is like Evan Turner.

-high pick
-high expectations
-accomplished players at lower levels
-good at a lot of things, great at none
-show flashes of turning the corner
-not in a starring role
-has trouble finishing

I thought yesterday was one of his better games. He controlled the puck a good bit, but nothing to show for it.

There are no indications that he won't put it together at some point. Just like JVR...

People quit on players too fast....no patience.

Well, there's only so much time to wait that you just have to make a call on whether you think he'll make it or not. It's not quitting on players too fast, it's determining the odds as best as one can and make a judgment based on this determination. And his current play can definitely be taken as an indication he won't put it together at some point. You gotta be honest with that. Sure, there's also a chance he becomes a great player, but you can't blame people for criticizing him at the moment and thinking he'll fizzle out.

Oh, and I'm also not someone who's quit on him.

He doesn't even have a full year under his belt yet. I would be a little concerned if he was the only one on the team not producing.

Yes I can.

Its dumb....at 21 years old.

I'm fine with being upset that we are forced to depend on Schenn and Couturier producing and Voracek turning into a scorer.

As long as he keeps hitting and playing a gritty game I am sure his scoring will come. I wouldn't be too worried.

He's a less-talented JVR, but he hits and plays a physical game, so everyone wants to show patience with him

The double standards around here are truly hilarious.
Alex Semin = Lazy Russian floater; Danny Briere = Playoff Hero
JVR @ age 21 = BUST ; Brayden Schenn @ age 21 = He needs more time

That's Philly. Stop being soft and you'll be fine.

this all the way. he would need to not produce for another two yrs for me to start calling him a bust. even then i would be hesitant.

JVR at 21 did need more time, anyone who suggested otherwise would be equally wrong as those suggesting it's time to start worrying about Schenn. Some may have a double standard but many don't.

I didn't say to give up on him. I was merely pointing out that being on the Flyers is not why he's not getting more ice time, it's because he hasn't played well. In fact, his ice time had gone down (although it went back up last game).

Pedigree and hype can only get you so far though.

thats true but if he were on a team like the jets he would most likely be getting more ice time then he is right now. players need ice time to work through their issues. i'm not saying you play him and just hope for wins cause he's not getting it done but there has to be a medium. i remember voracek was at his absolute best last year when g was out with a concussion and he's was getting ~20 maybe more minutes a night. he was far and away our best player during that stretch. i understand he earned the ice time with his play even when g was in the lineup and it's not as simple as increase ice time gets you better play i'm just saying that i think it would be beneficial for him.

also not being paired with a struggling jake (who has played much better recently) and sestito/rinaldo would also help him out.

He's done some stupid things this year. Here's hoping you can fix stupid.

This is probably a sophomore slump. It happens.

I'm irritated by him, but i'm not concerned. Many, many players have suffered with the SS, and i don't mean the Nazi party.

Given his pedigree, I expect him to breakout of his slump. I don't foresee it lasting all year. I hope he has a two goal game today and we can put an end to these threads.

Another thing is that JVR had been with the team for several seasons whereas this is Schenn's first full one, so fans are generally willing to give him more time.

I thought everyone was too harsh on JVR, the same will happen to Schenn, but I wouldn't worry. He won't be around another 2 years once Holmgren, like Philly fans, gives up on him without giving him proper development time. It's the Philly way. As I pointed out elsewhere, there is only one regular player on this team that the Flyers developed and has been here for 3 consecutive years from the start of their career.

When JVR wasn't playing well, he was a defensive liability, and not producing. When he was playing well, he was a legitimate top-six forward.

When Brayden Schenn isn't playing well, which we're saying is what's happening right now, he's netting 40 points, leading all forwards in hits, playing all three positions, and taking zero penalties in the process.

He's doing more for this club than Cal Clutterbuck has ever done, and people were willing to sell the farm for that guy not too seasons ago.
