I wouldn't want Clowe to be a main component of a deal.

One of Couture/Pavelski. I know how much everyone loves Couture, so Pavelski would have to be involved.

Kessel for Pavelski + Hamilton + 2nd

???

The problem is that Couture (still RFA) and Pavelski are on much cheaper contracts, and they are both already 30 goal scorers.

So, trading either one for Kessel is just a lateral move with more money being paid out.
Even if DW wanted to do a deal for Kessel for either Pavelski or Couture, he would be immediately fired for doing so because he would be just throwing money away.

This on top adding more? That just doesn't make SJ better at all.

Clowe is actually a great starting point for a trade.
Top 6
Alternate captain on a top team
Shootout player
Tough as nails
Big presence on the bench

We can probably do Clowe & Freddie Hamilton for Kessel
Thats probably the best prospect you can possibly get from us. No pick involved.

Clowe and Hamilton for Kessel?

You mean the same Clowe that almost every sharks fan wants to trade?

It would start with Pavelski + or no dice

Clowe is an absolute no-go. The guy doesn't fit the age group or the kind of player we'd like for Kessel.

Pavelski is a reasonable return as San Jose is already deep at C with Thornton and Couture possibly and with Gomez in the fold now.

No disrespect, but we'd pass.

Pavs + 2nd in 2013 + Hamilton for Kessel

or

Pavs + 1st in 2013 + Clowe for Kessel + Bozak

Pavelski has to be the cornerstone of the deal, yes.

But I'll totally understand if San Jose doesn't want to do that.

I can offer two possible scenarios.

1. Pavelski + Tommy Wingels

2. Hertl + Hamilton (This one is fair)

That's basically equivalent to two 1sts, which is less than you originally paid to get him...

I don't think the mandate is to replace what we gave up for him. I'm still hoping it doesn't come to it that we need to trade the guy. I want him re-signed.

However, in a trade, it is about pieces and how they fit.

Toronto's farm lacks top end talent at the F position with Frattin and Kadri now graduating, hence, Hertl and Hamilton will be a breath of fresh air.

Hamilton might not be too far away which also works well and Hertl is a high ceiling guy.

It's not reasonable because Pavelski is cheaper and a better player.

I'll refute that.

Kessel is way more talented.

Pavelski is the better player easily. Kessel is a one dimensional player and unless he's scoring he brings absolutely nothing to the table. Pavelski can be used in any situation. SJ wouldn't trade Pavs straight up for Kessel.

The Sharks and Leafs aren't good trading partners. The Leafs want value for Kessel, not garbage, and the cost of Kessel would destroy their depth. Any offer with Clowe as the centerpiece for Kessel is awful for them.

Lol ^ wow that is terrible.

Any sharks trade can start with Couture or you can stop trying. Either way I am happy.

Pavelski is a nice piece but he's also UFA in 1.5 seasons. If we're trading Kessel its for someone we can be sure we can retain for longer than that.

Okay. Then there is nothing else I'd want from the Sharks for Kessel. So you guys can stop dreaming.

Sure, easily, but not a single Shark fan has brought him up as a possibility. I'd say he is understandably off the table.

The fun part about trades is the speculation beyond talent. Many lopsided trades happen because of things happening behind the scenes. Take the Heatley trade from Ottawa, at the time it appeared to be very lopsided because Heatley wanted out.

In Kessel's case, I guess a lot hinges on whether he likes it in TO or he is tired of the constant reminder of the Boston trade. If he wants a fresh start where would he be willing to go? Western conference to get away from the east? Only a few people know these things.

Yea I get that. And thats the only player on that team I'd want back in a deal for kessel (even if we are adding). So kessel would be off the table too.
