This is a good team, a bit top heavy. The starting goalie(Siönäs) and one defenseman(Hansson) are playing with the U19 team, while Nylander(top6), Bristedt(top9) and Bergman(top4) are rather big injury losses. But it's also a weaker age group than -94 and -96. They will need big contribution from the -96 guys to succeed in the World Champs.

Yes, quite a few guys were not available though. Nylander, Bergman, Bristedt and Borgman could not participate due to injuries. Niklas Hansson and starting goalie Ebbe Sionäs are playing with the U19 team. Edit: Beaten to it.
Would not blame the goaltending entirely. Swedish D has been terrible and Russia has been dominant physically. Hägg has been a no-show for the first five periods.
A team with de la Rose, Liljendahl, Karlsson, Blidh, Henriksson should not be outmatched physically imo. But I've never been a fan of Grönborg and I'm dreading his entrance to the U20 team.

Most of the goals were because a Russian player got alone in front. The goalies didn't make many huge saves, but they also got hung out to dry.
The Russian team was surprisingly scrappy. As a team they played very physically, making it difficult for Sweden to gain the zone. Sweden was soft soft soft. Rather than coming back at Russia with disciplined physical play of their own, they got upset and it completely threw off their whole game.
For the first two periods they did, but Russia controlled most of the 3rd period. Have never seen a Russian team play such physical hockey, really threw the US off their game.
So...USA outshot Russia 55-17 and still lost. 4-3 final.

Wouldnt surprise me if 10+ of those 17 shots were very good scoring chances. Bragin's teams always preached possession until a sure moment instead of pulling the trigger from anywhere. Hey it works for Russia- most of these kids were brought up to play this way.
This certainly doesn't work for low skills teams as they just end up botching up their passing creating very stupid giveaways and they often just go back to firing on net since it's much easier.

That's probably the case. According to the shot chart pretty much every Russian shot was from long range though, very few right in front of the US goal.
