My problem with McPhee is that he thinks ANYONE who could improve the team significantly is too
expensive to acquire. Whether its via trade or free agency.
At the same time he is hell-bent on ignoring the fact that the guys who are already here are not
getting the job done yet somehow they are too valuable to the team to use to acquire players who
might actually make a difference.
The only time he makes deals are when they fall right into his lap like Ribeiro, Vokoun or Ovechkin or
when he goes dumpster diving during free agency.

When mcphee speaks, I look at the big picture. What was the theme of his 18 minute uncharacteristic presser. Give a one line summary what he said. Usually its a whole lot of talk around the real issues, and his actual intentions.

The 2 trades i wanted GMGM to make to improve our top 6 last season were durning the Blue Jackets fire sell
I wanted Mcphee to trade for Jeff Carter or Rick Nash, both went at pretty cheap prices, Alot here didnt want any part of either of those 2 because of their contracts and length of them. I wonder how many of the sky is falling caps fans would have given up olrov and a 1st rounder (wilson) for them now.

if he says he wont trade a first and then trades a first or says he wont trade alzner or carlson and then trades carlson, ive never seen him do that kind of thing
Exactly. I don't know why people are so incapable of precisely understanding what they see or hear. They create their own impression of it and, like you said, just run off the reservation with it.

Funny, I don't see how people can be so incapable of understanding how others may perceive things differently than themselves. And just run off the reservation with their dictionary under their arm, scratching their heads.

I feel his actions speak louder than his words. GM speak is almost laughable to me. I try and read body language, or expressions. You are obviously not a detective.

You use an extremely strict interpretation of all you read and hear.

It's a hockey board. Not an English Thesis.

We are talking about George here.

Excuse me if I perceive his parsing of words and distortion of his true intentions while attempting to appear be open and direct, differently than you.

I'm really trying not to be hostile, but seriously that whole post was just gibberish.

There is a basic and important distinction to be made between equivocation and lying. He arguably barely even equivocates, as much as he's just vague and doesn't provide information. If you can't make that distinction, I don't know how to help you. txpd laid the whole thing out very clearly.

He brought in Ribeiro and Wolski and figured the rest of the team could make up Semin's 20 or so goals a year. He said something to that effect if you want to search the net for it.

[He also said “not necessarily” on having to sign someone to replace Alexander Semin’s scoring.

“Troy Brouwer got 20 goals for us last year, which is one less than Semin,” McPhee said. “We’ll try our own guys.”]

I mean, he brought in Ribs, who seems like he's going to be a lot more productive. Any chance Semin would be leading the team in points?

I Hate GMGM--

I'm watching 19 having to skate with 17 and 20. Brouwer is a 3rd line W...maybe 2W....while Wolski is a retread, in every sense of the word.

We wonder why Backstrom sucks.

Yes, Mods....merge this into the Undertaker thread. I'm too lazy to do it.

He was okay. But that's most of what he's been all season, okay. Does his job, but not much else and isn't really a difference maker. Would be fine with him as a 3rd liner on a team that rolls three scoring lines, or better yet as a healthy scratch/injury fill in. But he shouldn't be in your every day top six.

Or bottom six so I would never want to see him on a 3rd or 4th line. His skillset demands that he either play in the top 6 or not at all. We really need Laich back and for Chimera to start playing like he can.

So question for McPhee... how is Semin not "our own" guys? Drafted and developed by the Capitals... at the time he had played 0 career games for other NHL teams...

Depends on how you build your team. I agree he shouldn't be on a shutdown line or agitating/grinding line. But if you're going to roll three scoring lines, he could fill a spot on the third one and your 2nd PP unit. He's decent enough at cycling the puck he could also fill in on a possession line, as well.
