Not really... it's more about being aware of the circumstance... This is a young team with little experience in net. We're all die hard fans here but I think it's pretty obvious this team has a lot to prove before we can call them a playoff team.

you need to be about 5-6 games over 500 ... 54 points in 48 games would be equivalent to 92 points in an 82 game season.

I really beleive this team can make the playoffs if we get back Lupul, Gunnarson, Gradiner.

Also, Carlyle needs to get the special teams to start working. This team easily has the ability to be 6-8 spot

We have a winning record:

- Without Gardiner or Lupul for most of the year (plus Gunnarsson for a good bit)
- With Kessel goalless for almost a quarter of the season
- With Phaneuf contributing exactly 1 point
- With Reimer as the starter
- With 3 AHL defensemen + Komisarek and Franson
- With an anemic powerplay (lol Kostka)

New coach, healed goalie, prospects showing up, scoring depth, LAC gone...we'll make it.

It's clearly the defense first approach that RC has implemented. We will have a shot most nights like this..

54 points means 3 games over .500.The current standings put the Leafs 4 games over .500.

The leafs are in a playoff spot currently despite having a banged up roster, a bunch of ahl blueliners, a crappy PK. I've said this before and I'll say this again it'll be a close call but I kinda wonder just how good this team could be with a healthy roster, Kessel producing, Gardiner logging top 4 mins and a solid PK..... just gives me a lot of food for thought.

^^1994-95 Leafs finished 21-19-8 and made the playoffs.. With a half a season like this, I could see one team finishing 8th with a .500 record or 2-3 games above .500.

1 game over 500 = 1 point over how many games you have played.

ie: our current record = 6-5. This = 12 points in 11 games.

20-20-8 = 48 (.500)

24-18-6 = 54 points.

(6 games over .500)

Yeah I think a team could get in with 2-3 games over though with maybe just 50 points. If they can get hot and win 5 in a row theres a good chance we could make it in.

12 points in 11 games is 1.09 pts/game,that gives Leafs 52.36 pts if continuing at the same pace.

In a 82 game season that's 90 points.

That's not a definite/set in stone number to clinch a playoff spot. East seems weak to start off, could be like 09-10 when the Habs/Flyers made it with 88 points. With the shortened season, who knows?

Why can't they ? They're playing decent right now, if they can remain healthy i don't see why not. Especially with a shortened season, there's no chance for a collapse after 60games

A handy site for tracking how many wins to make the playoffs: http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/E...t/Toronto.html

The magic number seems to be getting 20 wins with 5 extra points. We have to be 3-4 wins above .500 and we will comfortably be in the playoffs.

I am not sure if we will be in the playoffs. We haven't faced some of the teams that are above us in the standings yet (Ottawa, Tampa, NJD) and there are some teams below us that should be better than us. However, if we compete and win games against teams that we should and squeak out a few wins from stronger teams, we should be good for playoffs.

I think we make the playoffs. If we're playing well enough to have a chance. (minus the two NY blowouts), to win every game, that's Carlyle. I think if we're flirting around the "not" playoffs vs "yes" playofs line (say 8th-8th) I do see Nonis making a trade to push us over the hump.

I don't see Kessel being traded until Draft Day (as I am assuming his NMC/NTC kicks in July 1st) regardless of what happens, unless we totally freefall, and I could see him being moved. And the only reason why he gets traded is because they (both him + Nonis and co) know that he's not going to re-sign in Toronto and we get a some benefit from him being traded.

the powerplay is going to be the thing that sinks us. Our PK is decent enough, but we've lost games due to the fact that we can't pot one in (esp. with a full 2 minute 5-3). this totally needs work. if this is due because of no Lupul/Gardiner, then i suppose we'll just have to be patient? that plus our at home play. need to be at least .500 at home.

I think the Leafs can make the playoffs if they come in the top 8 in their conference. If they don't, then they have no chance.

IMO, of course.

They have 37 games to make or break it.

This team has walked into Pittsburgh and dominated.

They've also crumbled with 2 goal leads.

It depends which team shows up every night. Hopefully our road team does. It could go either way with where we're sitting right now, but I like to think we have a much better chance with RC's style than Wilson's.

I believe this team has the ability to make the playoffs, especially when Gardiner, Lupul, and Gunnerson are all back at 100% (I include Gardiner in this list because his time right now in the AHL is obviously a rehab stint and he's still recovering from his concussion).

I've said all year my dream season is for the Leafs to trade something for a fringe pick that wins the lottery, while at the same time the Leafs make the playoffs.

I like how people say it's deepest draft in years and then name only 2 players all the time. Here is news flash for you: with so many disgruntled franchises in NHL, Leafs are not getting any of MacKinnon or Jones. Got it?

Because a bad lineup on paper has never made the playoffs before...
