Players in the Doghouse/Healthy Scratches Ongoing Thread (Goligoski)
What would the Avs need to offer to make it worth Dallas' while to move Goligoski?
He could be an actually reasonable defender for us to acquire and pair with EJ and both of them could benefit from that trade.
I think Goligoski is still in the "sit him out and hope he turns things around" phase.
Tyler Myers will be a healthy scratch for Buffalo tonight. His play has been dreadful this year, though Buffalo fans seem to feel he's been better lately.

Nothing we'd possibly want or need, sorry to say. Like caley said, our coach is trying a "scratch him and make him hungrier" strategy and he did have 2 points last night on two very good plays, even if they were secondary assists.

Darn, worth asking though. If there ever comes the possibility I'm sure we'd be calling. Glad to see he rebounded, I still think he's a #2 type with slick puck moving abilities.
How about if we Offer you Niskanen for Goligoski? You'd save $$$ in the process.
Money is not an issue. I'm afraid of him not doing well here like he once was before he got traded. It was bad for his development. He's done well since his trade, benefiting from playing in the Pens' system amidst a lot of talent-- the same way Neal has-- so I'd have to pass on this.

Well, call me delusional, but I'd only consider (for what my opinion is worth) trading Goligoski in a package for an upgrade at his position. Now, if you had Shattenkirk, it'd be a different story, but would you have considered dealing him for a Goligoski+?

If they had shattenkirk, why would they need goli?

Today? No. At the time we had him, probably.
The reason we'd need a Goligoski type is to pair with EJ, we need someone that can play at a high enough level EJ can be more effective. As it stands, Wilson is the best partner he's had since arriving in Colorado.

And that's why I'm somewhat resigned to keeping Goligoski. We made a hasty deal out of desperation, IMO and all we can do now is hope Goose improves rather than try trading him for the kind of return that would benefit the team, because the latter is most likely not going to happen. Salary-dumping him is not an option atm either.
I'd do Barrie and something, depending on the plus. Should we open another thread and discuss this in more length? The Avs need the left handed shot, we've got an overload on the right side.

If we could fill his gap potentially via UFA, then there is a possibility of considering prospects in return. However this year's UFA pool is dry vis-a-vis PMDs and Larsen, with the ice-time he's been getting, isn't going to be an upgrade over Goose anytime soon. In addition, Goose's (Ltd) NTC kicks in next season till the end of his contract.

Barrie is largely NHL ready, just needs to play to learn. But we would probably need to send another dman in return due to our volume, could send SOB or Hunwick as a warm body for your third pairing?
Just spitballing, I cant see him moving due to his new contract anyways.

And that's where the problem lies, I'd assume. Our blueline is thin. The likes of Robidas and Daley-- both 2nd and 3rd pairing dmen-- have been forced to play bigger roles than their capabilities only because they're the more experienced ones. Dillon looks like he's set for a #3/4 role and Rome is a #6/7, but it's unknown what becomes of Larsen and Oleksiak at this point. Adding another prospect who "needs to play to learn," at the expense of a more experienced Goligoski, creates another unknown factor in the squad. It may work out in the long run, but I'm guessing both Nieuwendyk's and Gulutzan's heads might be on the chopping block if the team doesn't look playoff bound next season.
