Why even play Sanguinetti in OT? Just no point

On the other end of the spectrum just one back of Tampa now with equal played. Better then I was expecting heading into a game in Philly regardless of any struggles the Flyers have had this year.

Indeed, not bad at all...

Still sucks to have 9-14 on our back with 9 points each... At least the Caps are already in a hole. Not that they'd need Mackinnon with Ovy, Backstrom, Kuznetsov, and Forsberg already with the organization...

What the hell was Harrison doing on that play. "Hey Danny, I'll give you 20 feet of ice to play with while I screen my own goalie".

****!

The thing about the standings that always bothers me in our teams case is the goal differential. No matter what, it seems we are always in the minus category. If it comes down to that for a tiebreaker for 8th spot, we're probably out.

Sanguinetti played 11:15 in a 4-3 overtime game and was minus-3. I'm going on record as saying that if *I* played his 11:15, I wouldn't have been as bad as he was today. I really don't see how we can keep running him out there. It's not like he's Justin Faulk, and he's going to have some rough spots on the way to stardom. His upside is a No. 6 guy with some offensive upside. Put it this way, if he's not on either power-play unit, why is he dressed at all?

Edmonton may be shopping Ryan Whitney. Is he even an upgrade at this point? I haven't seen him play in a couple of years

There are guys in my beer league that are upgrades over Sanguinetti.

Next 5 games:

@ Islanders 2/11
@ Devils 2/12
Maple Leafs 2/14
@ Canadiens 2/18
Jets 2/21

All winnable games. We own the Islanders (last years Tavares 12 point tear nonwithstanding) and the Canadiens. The only one that really concerns me is the Devils.

Compared to the Lightning:

Bruins
Rangers
Canadiens
Capitals
Panthers

I can see us winning 4 of the next 5 and them winning 2 or 3 (given how they have been playing as of late).

Stealing a point off of the Devils will be huge for us. It gives some breathing room.

JR trying to justify trading away a 2nd round pick for this asshat? I really dont know how McBain could approach being as worthless as Sangs. Even when he's having a terrible game McBain might make a great play on talent alone. I've seen nothing to suggest the same from Sangs, and he's alwaysvawful.

After their win this afternoon the Devils are now tops in the conference.

The other four should ideally be wins, but I'd be perfectly fine with a 3-2 or 3-1-1 record over this 5 game stretch.

They were probably also NHL draft picks. I went into my locker room a couple of summers ago and this new guy pulls out Phoenix Coyotes pants and I asked him if he got them on Ebay.

He goes "No, I was drafted by them...."

Oooops, sorry buddy.....

I didn't think it would be possible for Sanguinetti to become even more of an outlier in the subjective +/- chart, but that guy is going for anti-Gretzky status at this point. Just blowing everyone else away. Based on the metrics in the last post in that thread, I doubt very much that any player in the league directly costs his team more goals than Sangs.

Maybe the Corvo signing wasn't so bad after all. Geehad, you win this round. We need to get Sangs the **** out of this lineup and go from there.

And therein lies the problem. The last several times we've played them, it's been John Tavares vs the Hurricanes. So basically unless JT is suspended or someone finds meth in his possession, this one is a toss-up.

Didn't the Isles sweep us last season?

I like goal differential too, in terms of judging how teams are playing. But in terms of making the playoffs, I looked back 20 years and found exactly zero times that it came into play. In other words, it would be nice to be on the positive side of the ledger for a change, but I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Yes.

But we swept the Bruins, so it kind of cancelled out.

We'll put our shutdown pairing of Corvo/Gleason against Tavares and all is well.

Mcbain in the lineup - 5W 2L

Sanguinetti in the lineup - 2W 4L 1otL

I hope Captain Kirk can figure out which one should be riding the pine in the press box.

Or, if we convert to GA/60 to make this list more telling:

Sanguinetti: 5.07 GA/60
Harrison: 3.71 GA/60
Gleason: 3.14 GA/60
Corvo: 2.37 GA/60
Faulk: 1.62 GA/60
Pitkanen: 1.25 GA/60
McBain: 1.01 GA/60

Or something like that.

that equates out to:

McBain GA/59:41ES
Pitkanen GA/47:53ES
Faulk GA/37:01ES
Corvo GA/25:18ES
Gleason GA/19:07ES
Harrison GA/16:11ES
Sanguinetti GA/11:50ES

so why the **** was McBain benched again?

I am going to go nuts if Sanguinetti is in the line-up next game. Corvo played a really solid game, even in the defensive zone. No reason to scratch him again. I still don't know why McBain got scratched, but it's insanity to be playing Sanguinetti over him. The second I saw him on the ice during OT i knew the Flyers were going to score.

Guys, I know we all like blaming Sanguinetti for things like this, but we're forgetting who's really at fault tonight. Cam W4rd.

Against Philly, I feel that our options were going to be Cam W4rd or Dan Elli5. I'm not sure who to pick in that case.
