As for the WJC Canada is loaded on the back end more then anywhere else. Its going to be hard to earn a spot. That being said, Hockey Canada seems to LOVE Dumba. I think he's a lock due to the fact that HC thinks highly of the style he brings. At the same time, if he misses the team I don't think I'd be surprised its a good defence for Team Canada this year.
And he was captain of the U18 team last year. Leadership always helps.
@ Minnesota- They are both eligible. I didn't think Siemens was, but he is. I'd rather have Siemens over Ouellet or Harrington.
Scored a goal in his last game, a 5-4 loss to Brandon. Interesting to know he has yet to have a negative game since Sutter has taken over the coaching reigns.
Dumba has been playing like he hasn't really cared all season long. A guy just going through the motions and waiting for the next step. He's been a little better since he came back from Minnesota but prior to that he has been disconnected. Just thought I'd toss that out.

You hate to see that out of a kid. But based on the reports I read about him in camp/practice he's damn near ready for the NHL. I wish the Wild could have put him in Houston to give him better competition.
from what i've heard Dumba is trying to be more "responsible" and naturally that's going to look lazy to people who are used to seeing him flying all over the ice willy-nilly 35 minutes a game. I'm sure "decision making" was on his list of things to work since draft. I haven't watched him so I don't know if this is the case, but it would make sense.

I've only been able to watch about 10 Red Deer games, but this is pretty much it. Anyone is going to look like they aren't trying when they are put in a different role. He has looked solid on the defensive end and has been beat very little.
Take a look at his game last night: 1 G, 1 A, +3, and first star of the game.
2 games ago. 2 A.
Hes riding a 4 point streak. If we are going to be getting defensively responsible play with the ability to put up offensive numbers, we'll just have to suffer through that.
Think how much his confidence took a hit in the last month and a half. Cut from the WJC team. Seems to be on the cusp of playing with the NHL, then scratched and sent back to Red Deer. Can you really blame him?
Nice. Pretty much what I expected. I'm guessing the bad games were before Sutter.
The average games were before Sutter, the bad ones were at Team Canada's World Junior Camp where he struggled immensly. Was one of the weakest defenseman at camp and I expected him to get cut in the first round of snips.
The good showing was after Christmas, haven't seen him in the New Year

Ah. Red Deer sure has turned the team around, too. Do you have anything more in-depth about his game?
My guess is that Dumba is working on his defensive game as relayed to him by the Wild organization, working on his weaknesses in his own zone and fixing the holes. I don't think his physical play and offensive skills have magically disappered, but rather been put on the back burner for a while while he remakes his defensive play.
