I'd be down on the guy, but he seems to actually be putting out effort. I think he is trying to hard to help the offense due to frustration and forgetting his duties.

How many times do you see him leading the charge over the blue line?

I think he'll be fine if he gets some teammates on offense that give a chit. I feel that way about most our d.

Carlson is this year's Dennis Wideman minus one thing - the points to show for that effort.

Carlson, Alzner and Schultz need to improve

Alzner has been fine when he's not paired with Carlson. He struggled in the first few games, and still struggles on the PK (Carlson being the common factor there).

Agree about Alzner, actually I think Green's improved play has a direct correlation to being paired with Alzner. That's what Alzner brings, he improves his partner's play.

Don't care. He would have points if OV gave a crap and GMGM acquired scoring depth.

Ribiero isn't a scorer but he has to now. That guy is producing at his expected or higher level. Meanwhile OV can't hit open net shots.

You can pay me 10 mil to stand at the blue line with my stick off the ice.

I'd rather have a team full of guys with heart than an overpaid floater that only seems to care about team Russia.

Carlson is blowing defensive zone coverages and not boxing anyone out. It's not just his "offensive style" that's causing the goals against. He's simply been awful in the defensive zone.

And the same happened last year until our forwards cared about d in the playoffs.

I can't blame the d when OV is basically making it 4 v 5 in our zone. Then barrels down the wing, pulls about at the blue line, passes into the other teams stick. Then the has to backpedal fast.

Carlson isn't good right now but I can tell the kid is frustrated with his teammates and has heart.

Alzner is paired with Carlson on the PK which is 27th in the league. Alzner GA when he's on the ice 4 on 5 is 10.24.

Tyler Myers worth a look? Or is he just another lazy tool who got paid and doesn't give a crap anymore?

My friend's a Buffalo fan, so I watch a few Sabres games. He still looks like a really driven player and shows a lot of emotion, but I think Myers and Tallinder had some Batman and Robin thing going on when he first entered the league, he hasn't seemed that confident and effective since.

This is why I'm kind of liking the whole break-up-Carlson-and-Alzer-and-put-them-with-"vets" experiment. Carlson and Hamrlik for a spell? Can't hurt.

Not nearly as many times as I've seen him floating around the defensive zone, watching the puck and looking confused, as his assignment skates past him for a wide-open opportunity (and probably scores a goal). Carlson's "effort" at that point usually consists of a half-assed, flat-footed hook or slash attempt at the guy blowing by him.

Seriously, can we just see Joel Ward on the top line once today?

Kind of a sad microcosm of the season right there.

I was calling for that before the lockout. He belongs there regardless. They need another winger, but not for that spot.

Ive seen enough of Wolski and ready to move on. I hope we are just showcasing him on top line to get a better trade for him when we dump him at the deadline.

Yeah, WW clearly isn't a long term solution to anything. I'd also move Chimmer at the TDL since he's getting into his mid-30s, and his speed game is going to drop off significantly sometime in the not-too-distant future.

Christ this team is a mess right now.

If he isn't the Caps get a big top-4 defenseman. If he is he will fit right in with the Caps. Win-win.

That's funny.

Wouldn't be opposed, but I'd rather a top 4 vet who isn't over the hill.

Thanks. His comment about knowing there was going to be a lockout makes me positive. If I was in his position, I would have done the same. He would have ticked of some home fans by going to Washington, then turn-around and not have a job.

It will be interesting if OV will turn it around once he gets here. If Kuz is as good as advertised, he could quickly become the most loved in DC. I can't imagine OV would like that. Maybe get fire under his ass.
