If Smith was to be dealt at the end of the season(trade deadline or something). Would you be more inclined to trade him for the type of package Comrie got or straight up for another dman that could help out in the present. Keep in mind the CBA.

With Cross, Staios and Brewer there's a soild nucleus of vets back there. Considering Semenov will be in his thrid year, Bergie in his second and guys like Lynch and Woywitka wanting to break into the league as rookies, the need on the blueline isn't as important (especially since there will likely be some solid vets available as FAs in 2004 - or 2005, lockout pending).
No, I'd like to see Smith packaged with an extra forward or two at the deadline (if we're not looking at playoffs) or in the offseason for a legit, big, top 6 C. Oates is a one-year stop gap and, IMO, York is better served on LW. We still need the ever-elusive big C...
