I'd be open to trade him if it was confirmed he was unhappy and/or strong rumours that he was looking to leave. If not, you keep this guy here and you don't let him go.

Bozak's been great so far this season. Defensively responsible and can put up 40-50 points. If we had a star center, he likely would be bad in his own end and Kessel would see the puck less. I guess if we give up expendable assets to get a center who would be the right fit, it would make sense. Don't see it happening anytime soon.
Also who knows... Kadri's been great, maybe he will get a shot in the near future.
I don't know how anyone could argue Kessel isn't worth $7 million when guys like Lupul and Grabovski are getting $5-5.5. If it came down to cap space, i'd move one of the other guys to fit Kessel in without even batting an eyelash.
hopefully he accepts P.Kane money, 6.3m over 5 years would be awesome
done deal ,,,,,,,not a penny more ......but id go 7 if he ll agree to a 2 year contract extension .... ,,,,,,but without any NTC ..in 3 years if this club is sill floundering ,a new gm ,coach ,the whole shebang !!!!!

I agree Bozak has looked great so far, and IMO would be a perfect 2nd line centre, however the Leafs are in dire need of a true #1 centre with size, it's their #1 need......and please trade Grabbo, he looks lost out their, and the biting thing, I hope thats not true, that behavior's completely unacceptable.
How do you know what the cap is beyond next season? 6.5m is 1.1m more then he is making now, and we are hardly in financial hardship.
Still bad cap management. The wing position is an area of strength for us and it is the easiest position to fill and I dont want Kessel signed until his mid 30īs like some people here suggest we should.
I Kessel can bring us a good young d-man or a good young center then I think we should trade him since that would benefit the team more long term. Kessel is not that important.

I expect to be making the playoffs while Kessel is still capable of potting 30+ goals. That makes him important. Its not like Kessel is an old man. Hes 25 for goodness sake.

And he will be 26 turning 27 when his new deal kicks in and people suggest we should give him anything between 5-8 years. I see no point in to tie up so much cash on a winger who will be between 32-35 years at the end of his deal. It is not like if he is like Parise or Zetterberg who can play both center and wing, have selke worthy 2-way game and are leaders.
I actually feel a lot more comfortable having Lupol signed long term in to his 30īs because he works out very hard, have leadership qualities and is at least an average 2-way player and I think he will last longer at a high level that way. With Kessel I am not so sure. I have seen enough of pure offensive players with just average or below average compete level slowly fade away.

Exactly. Look at the Habs, they have ZERO real scoring threat. MaxPac is as close to a 1st line scoring threat that they have and he's had just one good year and he's just a year younger than Kessel.
With Kessel...you're guaranteed 30-35 snipes every season along with great playmaking abilities.
We can't afford to lose Kessel for anything short of an overpayment.

They're not in a run & gun anymore. They're not trying to win games 5-4 and 6-5. They're trying to be a close checking team that finishes their checks and is responsible defensively.
