He's only making about 100k above the the minimum, but yes, elite teams carry toughness. Even Vancouver has Zack Kassian, Aaron Volpatti, Dale Weise, and Kevin Bieksa.

At the end of the day,

If you don't have great toughness on your NHL team, you don't have an NHL team.

If Brendan Prust doesn't epitomize being a goon, then I wonder how much of that kicks off towards the end of the game.

That really was the spark that ignited the powder keg. On one hand it's never bad to keep fighting until the final horn, but at what cost?

Prust trying to agitate, led to several brawls where the Habs were beaten down and their egos along with them.

Sedin's have the same number of cup rings that the Habs have had since 93 as well... Perhaps if they were surrounded by more toughness they would have won something.

Kassian and Bieksa are both quality players that 29 other teams would be interested in if they became available. Volpatti and Weise aren't really that different than Moen/Prust/White and I'm pretty sure Volpatti doesn't even draw into the lineup when they are healthy.

They have the luxury of two great players who are tough as well, MTL does not. As for Volpatti and Weise Prust may be better but not White or Moen (since he plays a softer game now). Teams without Bieksa's are in even more of a need for toughness than Van is (and it cost us the '11 cup).

That's because he was not surrounded well. Moen and Armstrong are both *******, and the rest of the roster can't fight.

That's all on idiot Bergevin's shoulders.

The Leafs are better because they're getting much better goaltending and timely scoring, not because of their knuckledraggers.

What about the 8-6 game against Boston a 2 years ago ? You don't think Buffalo took notice ? You don't think Toronto isn't going to pull that **** again ?

However, 1 heavy weight on a team full of midgets won't change when some teams can role 2, or more heavy weights.

Even middle weights with size will give us fits since Prust, White, and Cube are all 6'0, or smaller. Moen at 6'2 is the biggest we have.

Handpicking a few games isn't going to change my mind. We're usually the better team, usually the aggressor, and most games don't turn into circus like last night.

True, but I don't think teams in the East are going to forget this.

I'm sure Florida will be a bit incensed after the loss and the punch on Flesichmann.

Well this "one game" as you say is the start of many more to come get used to it like the last say 10 years needed toughness topic never addressed or solved to stop the bleeding maybe MT will come up with something with what he has.

Ken Campbell is about the most anti-fighting writer in hockey so of course he would say that

We don't need a heavyweight but we could use some more grit and size for sure.

One of Kassian, McGrattan or maybe even Steve MacIntyre are sorely needed. Couple that with Douglas Murray who is falling out of favour in San Jose and this team I think starts to play a better overall game.

Yeah, it's really not. I bet we don't see another chippy game for weeks.

Yes all good team have heavyweight fighters..the kings last year Kevin Westgath, the devils Janssen and Boulton, the bruins when the beat the canucks huge size.....bergivin go pick up from the ducks farm team Jean-Luc Leterneau Leblind or Jay Rosehill,or someone who can actually play like the blues farmhand 20 year old Cody Beach who had 56 points in 58 games last year in the whl and led the league in penalty minutes is 6 foot 5,he even fought the beast Dylan Mcllrath who if course is considered one of the toughest players to ever player in the whl,he is of course drafted on the 1st round by the rangers he will be kicking lucic's butt this time next year.
