Now compare that to the Canucks, who according to TSN have 10 players locked up right now for $33 million.

I like the way we sit a lot better.

OK you are crazy.

just kidding....actually you are correct...in a way. Frolov makes $2 million in "actual" money this season.....His Cap hit is in fact $2.9 million though.

Take into account the roll back with the new CBA. I think his contract was for $2.9 originally as was Conroys in $3.2 area.

Frolov's contract was signed after the rollback.

Please explain how this works if you would be so kind.....2 mill actual, 2.9 hit???

nevermind....2.9 over 5 years

"Frolov became a restricted free agent before the 2005-06 NHL season, and he and the Kings had initial diffuculties in agreeing on a new contract. He then signed a one-year contract with Avangard Omsk of the RSL, the league in which he played durng the 2004-05 NHL lockout, saying that he would most likely go on to spend the 2005-06 season playing in Russia. However, about a month later, he signed a 5 year, $14.5 million contract with the Kings."

So we're at 32.166. Say we deal Avery, Belanger and Garon. We have to sign Cammalleri, DL deals here and there, and we've got plenty of room imo.

He signed an escalating contract (hence it goes up every year).....but in the new CBA the contract is averaged over the entire length. His actual contract was 5 years for $14.5 million. Sothe cap hit is $2.9 million......but in the last year he will actually make about $4 million and the cap hit will still be $2.9

Cammi will probably get $2 - $2.5 million. That puts as at around $35 million. I can see Lombardi probably dealing Belanger and Garon.....Avery is still a mystery though. But I would say that the Kings "unofficial" budget is about $40 million so we have a $5 million left.

If Avery stays I still see him getting about $750K in an arbitration deal....so it would still leave the Kings about $4.25 million....but if Kopitar ($850K) and/or O'Sullivan ($800K) make the team that amout goes down a bit.

Both Kopitar & O'Sully make the team.

Lines:

Frolov/Conroy/Cammalleri
O'Sullivan/Kopitar/Brown
Thornton/McCauley/Avery
Willsie/Belanger/Cowan

Blake/Gleason
Norstrom/Miller
Sopel/Lubo

Cloutier
Labarbera

Garon gets moved and either Conroy or Belanger get moved for Gomez. (Just a hunch).

IF we're at 35, and the self imposed budget is at 40, then yeah we only have 5 million to spend, even if the cap is at 44. You want the wiggle room.

There's also a good chance that other moves DL makes will be through trade...allowing for subtraction with the salary additions.

I did say the Kings "unofficial" budget. Because I don't think any of us here are under the illusion that AEG would actually let Lombardi max out the payroll.

Let's not be too sure. It stands to reason that Lombardi was willing to pay Shanahan $4M. I think that he would've acquired Cloutier, regardless, considering everything that's been said about needing a stable goaltender. So, add Shanahan's $4M to the ~$39M or so that the Kings are expected to be at after signing all RFAs and you get ~$43M. After trimming a little fat here and there (extra goalie, extra 3rd/4th-liners), you end up with $41M or so. That number could go up a tad with additions mid-season, so I think that that basically suggests a willingness to spend to the cap. As President, in addition to GM, I think that Lombardi has more control over how much gets spent than Taylor ever did.

You can think what you will but until I see the Kings payroll go above the $40 million mark I am certain that AEG will not let this team get close to the cap.....unless they are assured of making the playoffs (that means more revenue). And Shanahan would not make this team a contender.

BTW....Taylor was the president of the team as well.

No, he wasn't. Leiweke was, remember? Taylor was only President of Hockey Operations.
