We should move Miller, I like Zip's idea of Bernier

Claim Dana Tyrell off of waivers. He could be a good addition to this bottom-six. Seems to me like a younger Chimera.

Speedy, checking forward who plays hard every shift. Bad hands and not much offense but a defensive, PKing forward and very very fast.

I wouldn't be completely opposed to a Miller-Hiller swap - I don't see Duckies throwing Ryan in for Drew though...

We truly would be the U.N. of the league then...

9 Canadians
8 Americans
3 Germans
1 Slovak
1 Finn
1 Russian
1 Swede
1 Austian

Might as well as a Swiss goaltender in Hiller, not to mention we have 1 Latvian coming next year in Zemgus.

It puts speed and tenacity into the 3rd line, which they could use. And yes, his hands have never caught up to his feet. Him and Boyle would be 2/3rds of one heck of a checking line. Too much to ask for, right?

#1 priority next year : re-sign Vanek. If he leaves our team is doomed.

5 years, 30 million. 6 mil is a slight discount but I think Vanek would prefer to finish his career in Buffalo. He deserves to be a Sabre for life.

Vanek will sign for whatever Darcy offers him. He's too lazy to move anywhere.

Came here to say just this. I would love Tyrell on the sabres. Watched him play in PG in his junior years. Heart and soul guy.

Way too much. I don't see the Rangers making trades within the division unless a third team is involved or we really scratch their back. Washington might sell off Chimera if they fire GMGM, but not until later in the season. He's been very effective in Washington.

Mods can decide if this deserves its own thread, but Andy Strickland says Gerbe is being shopped according to the trade board:

Sources say donít be shocked if Sabres GM Darcy Regier moves or at least attempts to move Gerbe in the near future.

Gerbe has been relegated to fourth line duty where with his size heís hardly making any sort of relevant impact. Heís playing 9 minutes on a good night but for the most part is seeing 6-7 minutes of ice a night. This guy isn't a fourth line player and I'm not so sure what the thought process is here.

The return of Patrick Kaleta (neck), who was cleared to return today, could make Gerbe expendable. The former Boston College standout scored 16 goals two-years ago before seeing his total reduced to six last season.
Also says a source tells him Leino will have labrum surgery and will miss the whole season.

Gerbe coming off a 16-goal rookie season would have been worth something. This version of Gerbe is worth a late pick at best. If Regier moves him, it's to clear space, not get much of an asset.

Pretty much. He hasn't been the same since the Bourdon hit.

He hasn't been given a chance.

Not much he can do playing with scrubs like McCormick and Scott for about 6 minutes a game.

I'd make three moves.

Gerbe + to NJD for Tallinder
Leopold + Adam to NYR for Boyle

Vanek - Hodgson - Pominville
Foligno - Ennis - Stafford
Hecht - Grigorenko - Ott
Scott - Boyle - Kaleta
McCormick, and Leino when healthy

Tallinder - Myers
Ehrhoff - Sulzer
Regehr - Sekera
Weber

Miller
Enorth

Then add a new coach and see how this group plays before making further moves.

I've always felt Gerbe would do best on the 3rd scoring line of a team that runs 3 scoring lines. Not skilled enough for a traditional top 6 role, not big enough for a traditional bottom 6 role, but a 3rd scoring line role works well. Yeah he played good in a checking role last year, but his offensive talents are wasted there...a 2-way line would be better.

He's fallen too far down the depth chart to get that role here. Might as well move him.

Tallinder healthy scratched for the fifth consecutive time tonight. Deboer had a pretty telling comment and one that I think indicates they'd be willing to move him:

Quote:
ďHe knows what he has to do. He knows the expectations and what he needs to bring to the table and improve at. I think itís a fine line. There is not a lot of difference between any of our eight defensemen, which is a good thing for our coaching staff. From a playerís perspective it leaves a small margin or error.Ē
http://www.nj.com/devils/index.ssf/2...taken_the.html

Considering five of the other seven earn less money than Tallinder, one would have to imagine that he could be on the move. With it looking more and more likely that Regehr may be creeping in on Rivet territory, Regier may want to start considering some different defensive defensemen for next season. The UFA crop of defensemen is pretty poor, too.

Tallinder is has one more season on his contract after this one, and a cap hit of $3.375m.

So, let me get this straight. Tallinder, a HEALTHY SCRATCH, is our teams defensive savior?

We got the last good season out of him in Myers rookie year. Sorry. We did. This idea that we can magically promote a player who is a healthy scratch on a team that isn't exactly swimming in amazing defensive talent to our top pairing.

I should also point out we are currently carrying EIGHT d-men.

Adding Tallinder fixes nothing. If you really want a better defensive team, put brennan on waivers, trade Leopold, call up Pardy, scratch Sulzer.

Myers-Sekera
Pardy-Ehrhoff
Weber-Regehr
Sulzer

The Rangers are in the Atlantic. The Sabres are in the Northeast. The Caps are in the Southeast. I am confused.

Anyone know how Leino was hurt? Was that released? As far as I know he wasn't playing anywhere during lockout.

His hips have been a problem since before he even came to the NHL, I believe.
He had surgery on one side after the 09-10 season and had some issues during 10-11, then probably should have had surgery on the other side.
He never did and we're at this point today.

Lovely.

Didn't think it was possible but...now it seems the signing is even worse than it was before.
