Nope. They were interested in taking Reinhart with the pick.
Start listening at the :30 mark
Never says with the #1 overall pick. You honestly think that they wouldn't have traded down to draft Reinhart if that was the case???

AMAC is a legit top 4 dman and on a playoff team a really good #3-4.
Defintiely not as a #3 on a playoff caliber team with a better defense, MAYBE a #4 in that situation. As a Ranger fan I agree that he doesn't suck, but I think you're overrating him quite a bit here.
There are some teams where he might not even crack the top-6. LA, when healthy. Nashville. Rangers, if Sauer was healthy. San Jose.
Not trying to bash him, but I do think you're overrating him quite a bit. He's a very good borderline #4-#5 that's playing well as a #2-#3 in his situation. Just like Rozsival in his time with the Rangers, solid #3-#4 guy that was playing as a #1 due to lack of depth on defense.

"if this one goes down it will be a major domino of sorts and shift the balance. If it is going to happen most feel it will happen by gametime tomorrow "
Time is running out...doubt anything will happen. If there was a deal, it probably fell apart.
Did you even read my post? I said I know it won't happen, I was curious to see what it would take for Streit + someone else for Petry.
My guess is its something like Whitney+Martindale+4th for Vishnovsky/Streit+Reasoner. Vishnovsky is a UFA next season and has no desire to stay in NY from what I've heard, so thats taken into account when looking at value.
Blockbusters featuring young franchise players RARELY happens if at all. Come on People!
"if at all", guess who this was: "After a second season in Hartford, he was traded to the St. Louis Blues". How about "selected second overall by the New York Islanders but never played for the team. He was traded ..."
How isn't Visnovsky the most likely candidate. Isles sign Thomas to give themselves some movement room. Vis clearly doesn't want to be there.
Visnovsky to Edm makes sense to me
Isles pp has gone into the toilet after a great start.
Cappy has said they want Vis to provide pp points and to ease the heavily workload of their top 3: Streit/Hamonic/MacDonald.
Snow has said he got Thomas for potential future moves, so the isles will be cap compliant.
With his owner, coaches and players talking about making a playoff push this season, Snow is not dumping key players 11 games into the season.
Get back to him about his impending ufas, Vis and Streit, as the April 5th trade deadline approaches.
don't be too surprised if some kind of package involving Nino and Reinhart from the Isles side, and MPS and Petry from the Oilers side is being discussed. contrary to what us fans always think, if Nino doesn't want to play on the island anymore, and Snow can get something more than just a 1st round pick for him, he'll listen to offers.

Contrary to what opposing fans think, Snow is not the type of gm who will be embarrassed into trading a top prospect, with no leverage to force a trade.
Just like Snow was not embarrassed into putting Nabby back on waivers and just like he was not embarrassed into trading Vis, Snow will keep 20 yr old Nino.
I guess fans missed reading the two latest interviews from Nino's agent, where he admits in both, that he doesn't expect Snow to trade Nino.
I guess fans also missed Nino's statement, about how he's just gonna concentrate on playing.
Snow sees Nabby come in and play, then sign an extension when his first deal ended.
He sees Vis join the team, joking with teammates and charming the press.
Snow's paying about as much attention to Nino's demands, as he did nabby and Vis demands.

EDM needs to get bigger in the top 6 and NYI are looking for more skill:
To EDM:
Okposo- NYI fans has stated that management wants to move him
Nino-Asked for a trade
2nd/3rd what would be fair.
To NYI
Hemsky
Gagner
EDM gets some size for their top 6 and NYI get skill for their top 6. Is that fair or does EDM have to add and if so what?
EDM top 6
Hall; Okposo; Eberle
Nino; RNH; Yak
This adds more size to our top 6 with a very nice mixture with skill. Okposo also good on the dot.

This leaves the Isles in the same position - no size or grit in top 6.

If anything NYI's have to add. You'd be lucky to get Hemsky for Okoposo and Nino which means your basically valuing Gagner as a 2nd.

There has not been one source, saying the isles are looking to move Okposo. Or that Nino's trade demand is being given any consideration. Just the opposite, judging by the latest comments from Nino's agent.
Q:What are you going to do now?
A:We’ll see. I’ll have some tough negotiations with GM Garth Snow when Nino’s contract is over in two years, anyway. I want Nino Niederreiter on a team, that believes in him and that gives him a chance. It doesn’t matter if this team is the New York Islanders or a different team.
