Phaneuf - Holzer
Gardiner - Franson
Gunnarson - Liles
Fraser

Bye bye Kostka & Komisarek?

BTW I like the way Komi has been playing this year, but Holzer and Franson have been impressive over the past couple of games, and I like Fraser for physical intimidation.

All the line shuffling RC did is really paying off, we now have sort of seen a lot of combinations of what works and what doesn't.

This.

Ron Wilson was terrible at juggling lines and when you see how well it can present opportunities under a decent coach, it is impressive.

I'd like to see something like this

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
Komarov - Grabovski - Kulemin (2a/checking line)
vanRiemsdyk - Kadri - Frattin (2b scoring)
McClaren - McClement - Orr

Bye bye MacArthur?
forwards
brown, steckel
defence
dion,holzer
kostka,liles
frazer-franson
gunnersson,komi
+ 2 goalies

thats 25 players, 2 have to go
only kadri and holzer can clear waivers.

komi buyout, steckle on waivers

when Lupul comes back I'd ship MacArthur and Gunnarsson in a package for futures.

lupul - bozak - kessel
kulemin - grabovski - komarov
JVR - kadri - frattin

MacArthur, Steckel, and Brown seem like the odd men out. McClement is a big upgrade on Steckel, Orr/McLaren provide more toughness than Brown, and Lupul/Kessel/JVR/Kulemin/Frattin/Komarov are all ahead of Mac on the depth chart. Likely we'll keep one or two of them though, in case of injuries.

Your right about Mac and Steckel but I can't see them getting rid of Brownie. With an injury, McClement can easily fill in for someone in the top 9 and Brown can take his place on the 4th line. Plus he's cheap.

One thing we should consider is possible playoff lines, if we're lucky enough to make it.

Remember, while Carlyle likes having heavyweights on his team during the regular season, he doesn't necessarily like using them in the playoffs.

He used Parros in the regular season, but come playoffs Parros only played 5gms in their cup run. Of course, he did use middleweights / borderline heavyweights Thornton and May in most - but not all- of those playoff games.

In general, many of you are too eager to get rid of our quality depth, IMO. Most likely, we'll need them all at some point.

Do the amnesty buy-outs need to be used in the coming offseason or can we hold on to them?

If they do need to be used, then one thing I've been thinking about is does anyone know if there's a rule against buying a player out and then signing them to a new contract? If it was allowed, then that could be a really effective move for some teams who don't have any glaring albatross contracts (i.e. buy out Phaneufs final year at $5.5M, meaning he'd get $1.83M for two years that didn't count against the cap, and then re-sign him to a contract that's like $1M/yr less than normal). Of course, there'd need to be some agreement between the team and player to make this work, but just a thought.

Yeah, he'd be the first on my list of those three to hold on to in case of injuries. He could also play against softer teams when we don't need to dress both Orr and McLaren.

Haha. I kind of figured there would be.

What about using the amnesty buy outs this season? Can they be held on to?

i'd rather keep komi, can't beleive i just said it but he's a good fit under carlyle.

the reason i say macarthur and gunnarsson is i think they could fetch a decent pick or prospect to help restock the farm. i'm perfectly fine with getting rid of steckel and keeping macarthur as insurance though.

Not sure, but I'd guess it's a one-time window.

We're gonna have to use one at least on Komi. Other than that, any other contract we might want to move will be tradeable IMO.

I wonder if they can amnesty Tucker or Armstrong's last year of buyout caphit, maybe.

gunnersson has to be moved, while he is on the injured list, cause if we activate him we will be over the 23 man roster, now what?

That would be nice. The only contracts we have past next year are Grabo, JVR, Lupul, and Liles...and none of them are buyout-worthy. Maybe Liles if we want to get Gardiner/Rielly into the line-up, but he's one of our few veteran d-men and signed to a pretty reasonable contract.
