Congrats to Austria (and Thomas Vanek) on making it to the Olympics! Too bad Germany (and fellow Sabres- Jochen Hecht, Christain Ehrhoff and Alexander Sulzer) couldn't make it as well.

It's awesome how close the games were, because at least for groups D and E, I would've thought Germany and Latvia would advance relatively comfortably.

Congrats Latvia...
This is tough. I really thought France had a good chance to finally be back to the olympics. If only they played better against Kazakhstan...

Man that was a nerve racking game to watch. With both Germany and Denmark/Belarus already out, I though it was destined to be the year of the underdog everywhere. Thankfully Latvia held on for the regulation tie. I honestly didn't care about who won the game after that point, and it looked like most of the players didn't either. Finally some good news for LV hockey fans after a disappointing few years.

Is that Nike's actual design, or a fan concept? I quite like 'em, especially the white. Are there any floating around for the other teams?

Ya... There doesn't seem to be a whole lot that seperates say the 8th or 9th best nation and the say 17th or 18th best nation. The fact that hockey's 'second tier' seems to be (very) slowly growing in both quantity and quality is a good thing. Easier said than done but hopefully a few of them one day can start 'blurring' the very definitive line between the 'big 6 or 7' and the second tier. I guess you could say Switzerland has started doing so but at least a couple more would be cool.

I actually sort of like that. Is that a legit possibility or just a mock up a fan made?

Does the IOC still have the rule in place where countries can't use the logo of the national federation?

Is there a reason why hockey doesn't use green like the other national teams? Given the number of teams that have a Blue, Red and White colour scheme seeing something a bit different would be nice.

I got it from the slovenian facebook federation page and it said something along the lines of " this is what we will be wearing for 2014" and it was posted by the federation. Id imagine all teams in this qualification tournament were told to make concepts, I havent seen any others but id love to.

These will be entered into the IIHF Rankings after the 2014 Olympics:

15th: Germany
16th: Italy
17th: France
18th: Denmark
19th: Great Britain
20th: Netherlands
21st: Ukraine

If the tiebreaker is goal differential, Kazakhstan finishes 13th. If it is regulation wins, Belarus is 13th.

from what I've read, though forgot where I saw it, yes that rule is still in place

on the slovenia fed facebook page, they had a few concepts with the same color combination the soccer team uses.. I cant find the pictures at the moment, but they are on there, see my other post for the link to the page

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming the other teams won't be releasing theirs, as their participation in the Olympics is a bit less shocking and there's no reason to stoke interest a year out.

Don't all teams still get points based on their play in the World Championships? I'm not sure how you can come to these conclusions before then, or the end of the Olympics.

Especially their pool which will have the US, Russia and Slovakia. I noticed that their goalie uses the green on his mask though. I had never noticed the green thing before (then again, I haven't seen any of their other teams play), but it seems like a decent idea to borrow it. Maybe a Slovenian poster can explain to me if there's any significance to the addition of green, just like the Italian Blue, Dutch orange, Aussie green and yellow, etc.
