Rumor From FlyersPhans.com

Posted by a guy named Nachbaur (formerly known as Ilka) who posts rumors a lot, here and there gets one right and would SEEM to have some inside source.

I haven't posted since June 19th, so someone was having a good time. Any mod can check the IP numbers and see that it wasn't me. Anyway, Hatcher is gone. His brand new house in Haddonfield is up for sale. Here is a surreal rumor that I just heard:

Bob Suave, the agent for Gagne, has informed the Flyers that the Montreal Canadiens are preparing to offer Simon Gagne an offer sheet in excess of of $5 million a year. This would constitute the Flyers receiving 4 first rounders, but the Candiens are willing to to negotiate compensation. Markov's name is being mentioned. If I was Clarke, I would take the 4 1st rounders because with parity in the new NHL, a couple of those picks could be top 5'ers.

This trade/signing could bolster the Flyers franchise for the immediate future in the new cap world akin to what Hershel did for the cowboys.

you want him... gimme 4 1st rounders. Markov is a nice player to have, but looking to the future with the potential of having 2 first round picks for the next 4 years in the salary cap is a GREAT thing to have.

a crippling thing to give up under the salary cap, too.

Gagne isn't worth 5M.

i don't buy that ANYONE is willing to give that up for a player... Montreal may want to work a sign and trade with the Flyers, but I doubt they're about to make that offer w/out a trade prepared.

Andrei Markov is out best defenseman. He is an offensive defenseman but he is very reliable defensively.

I don't think the Habs would give up Markov alone.

Especially when you cant predict the future and they give you 4 picks expecting to be 20 or better and then injuries/bad luck and next thing you know a couple of them are top 10. Dont laugh its happened many many times.

QFT. No one in their right mind would do such a thing. Maybe Montreal and Philly could work out a deal involving Markov, but that's about it.

heh? are you serious?

Markov is the most reliable defenseman we have. He is on to play the stars of the other teams. He is on the PP and on the PK as well. He also has a great first pass out of the zone and is really good for the new NHL.

We have lots of depth for kids right now, so 4 first rounders might be legit.

it's still moronic... salary controlled players are the most valuable thing under the cap.

Please, oh please do this. Gagne's my favorite player but this will help us for the next 10 years down the road. 5 Million is way too much for someone who is most likely going to be a 40-50 point man once Peter leaves.

No, I wasn't really serious but even if Markov would be part of the deal I'd still want at least 2 first rounders.

4 1st Rounders >>> Markov or Gagne.

Can you guys tell me if Gagne is a superstar?

I place guys like Staal,Ovechkin,Crosby,Forsberg,Jagr,Thornton as "superstars"

Does Gagne fit with them or is he the second tier stars like Bertuzzi ...Gaborik ..Havlat ...

how is his play without Forbserg, how do you think he would fit with Kovalev and Koivu

If this happens, Montreal wins the Cup.

Traded Fedotenko - Won the cup (we did get Pitkanen so I can forgive this I guess)
Traded Williams - Won the cup

And both these guys played big parts in their respective cup runs.

STOP TRADING YOUNG PLAYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, Other players we let go

Prospal - Became a very good player
Eaton - Become a solid defender
Vandemeer - Solid defender
Dipenta - Played a full season with Anaheim, solid #5-6 dman
Fedoruk - kept Brashear instead of him, played his but off for Anaheim and is one of their leaders
Rado - To be determined
Seidenberg - Still to be determined if he turns out to be anything.
Zubrus - Arguable, but he is a solid two way player

I think the defense would have looked a lot better having Eaton and DiPenta instead of Desjardone and one of the twin towers. Vandemeer basically could have doen what Gauthier brings to the table, although a little less nasty and a little more steady defensively.

None of these guys are superstars, but I am getting sick and tired of letting these young guys go. Let them develop, stop trading them or not resigning them.

I just dont feel this orgainization has the personnel in place to build a "team" especially in the new NHL.

Agreed. $4.5 t0 $5 is about right for him. SIgn him to that for 4-5 years and get it done.

What has Tanguay done that Gagne hasnt? Switch the two and I bet you Gagne is getting that contract right now.
