The #2 Worst Jersey goes to the New York Rangers (sorry roynyr). The reason I have included the Rangers is that they are still using the boring jerseys that have "RANGERS" spelled down the front of them, when they have the beautiful alternate jerseys with the Statue of Liberty logo on them. The "Lady Liberty" jerseys are so much more attractive, so I don’t understand why they don’t burn the old ones!
The Rangers apparently got their name from Garden president G.L. "Tex" Rickard and sportswriters terming the team "Tex's Rangers". That gives some amount of legitimacy to their badge-like logo. Unfortunately, they didn't jump on using the Rangers starred badge, and now baseball's Texas Rangers have it. So the logo designer is left with the challenge of creating a new Rangers-ish logo without stepping on Texan's toes. Given that, it's an adequate job.
From a design standpoint, the logo is easily recognizable and fairly easy to read at varying sizes. It's hard to criticize. Ultimately, though, it's also hard to praise. Nothing stands out as inventive or creative. Hence, the middle of the pack finish.
Advice: The Rangers' secondary logo is great, making use of iconic statue while possibly alluding to the pointed star of the Texas badge. Adopt it as your primary logo.
This isn't I heard that the Rangers jersey and logo are bland and need to be updated and the original rangers look has run its course. Should the Rangers adpot the liberty jersey as its primary logo along with blue and white verisons of the logo and the classic blue "RANGERS" slanted jersey be the 3rd Jersey?
I always liked the Rangers uniform, though admitedly I always liked the white jersey better.
The third jersey is really nice, but doesn't seem to work as well when you turn the colors white.
I've always thought the Rangers jersey doesn't date itself. Some team's have to change logos every 10 years or so because their design is very symbolic of the time it was created.
I love the Rangers slanted jerseys. Uniforms don't have to be fancy, and have all the stupid bells and whistles, ours is nice, isn't too busy...
I love our third jerseys, but I love them the way they are, as 3rd jerseys. The slanted Rangers jersey is classy, and it should stay.
i wish we still used the white with the liberty, it looked like the Pack jersey a little bit but it still looked good. I wish they would use it again. Alot of the NHL and their minor teams jersey looks alike.

Agree totally..but maybe it's my age showing through (I also like the Leafs, Habs, Blackhawks and Wings originals)..I too love the White jersey....Have no use whatsoever for the Liberty jersey though..
And probably got into hockey in the last 3 or 4 years or so.
Christ almighty.

1) Don't change the logo or lettering.
2) Replace the laces with the white and red collar they had before. I've been wanting to buy a new jersey for years but I hate those white laces!
3) Get rid of the ugly Statue of Liberty 3rd jersey.
Most of the recent logo changes have been for the worse. Look at the new Anaheim logo, or the Islanders fish sticks mess. It's better not to mess with tradition. I think most NY fans would agree.
I guess there's no accounting for taste...at least not this guys. It's all very nice to have new jerseys, but this guy has no respect for traditions, picking all new jerseys (at least they were in 2001 when he wrote the article) and including of all teams the "Mighty Ducks". I'm sorry, but teal went out with the early 90s...
The Rangers jersey in many ways is timeless, you don't necessarily look at it and associate it with an era like say the Ferguson "Jet" Ranger jerseys. Or the 70s "V" jerseys in Vancouver.
San Jose and Colorado in my opinion look like they came out of the late 80s/early 90s, whereas when I look at a Leaf or Bruins jersey it too looks timeless.
This guy liked the Nashville Predators Jersey...He has no credit at all. I hope the rangers never change their jerseys. I do like the Vintage Jerseys they wear from time to time though.

Orig. 6 teams IMO should stay as close to their Org. jerseys as possible. The rangers havent had any MAJOR changes to their jerseys for the most part, and as far as i'm concered there isnt a need.
This is clearly written by a design professional, rather than a hockey fan. Such individuals always advocate "new" as "better." Timeless classics = no new engagements for him!
