Perry at 18 yrs & 7 months doesn't make Team Canada.

Woywitka at 19 yrs & 3 months excels for Team Canada.

How about this one:

Oiler young defencemen in the system who are expected to make an impact:
Lynch, Greene

Oiler young forwards who are expected to make an impact:
Jani Rita, MA Pouliot, Jesse Niinimaki, Alexei Mikhnov, Tony Salmelainen

The Oilers have alot more Corey Perry type players than they do Wyowitka ones. The fact that Wyowitka is now the Oilers best defenceman not playing in the NHL is a pretty good sign of that.

Yup a prospect who's basically 2 years older....and the one who is 2 years younger is leading the OHL in scoring

Why don't you re-read my original post again.

I was speaking of Woywitka at this time last year compared to Perry right now.

The difference in age is less than a year. Woywitka was a big part of Team Canada winning a silver medal.

Perry will be staying home, and cheering on Team Canada like everyone else.

------------------------------------------------

Woywitka last season was only recognized as the best defenseman in the WHL.

Perry for all his points is not considered to be the best forward in the OHL.

Don't move Smith! We need waaaayyy more of his grit. He's having a banner year and will continue to. He's not a top d-man but he's at least as good a Carny, and look what he did for Anahiem last year.

As much as I'm glad to see the Oilers acquire Woywitka, I must say that I'm sad to see Comrie go.

I'll continue to be a fan of #89 even after what went down. All the best in Philly or wherever you end up, MC.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already - this thread is getting too big to go through in its entirety.

About the only thing Lowe is getting flak for is "not improving the team now". First, as Mac-T said, perhaps the market just wasn't there to get a legit warm body. Second, we need to remember that the money we didn't pay Comrie we used to get Oates who I'm sure will pick it up after Christmas. In essence Lowe HAS improved the team now and in the future.

Put it this way, if in October (when things had only begun to get ugly) someone had offered Comrie for Oates, Woywitka, a first and a third, wouldn't you have taken it?

Great call PineJockey. That's a great deal taken in that context - Oates, Woywitka, 1st round pick 2004, 3rd round pick 2005. It reminds me of when we traded away Messier for Nicholls (the veteran who could replace some of the points), Rice (prospect - tough winger type), Debrusk (at the time, he was anywhere from prospect bruiser to power forward). And Comrie is no Messier. But I think Woywitka is a more solid prospect than either Rice or Debrusk. And Oates wanted to be here (signing as a free agent) more so than Nicholls (who was traded here).
