With Guerin and Arnott's departures the Stars have some holes to fill at the top of their lineup. I'm just curious about filling those from within.
1. Does Erikkson have a realistic shot at making the jump this year?
2. What about Miettinen taking on a greater role with this team? he seems to be skilled and versatile enough that he could handle a slightly greater (and more offensive) role.
Just curious what the consensus is from Star's fans. thanks in advance
Great questions. Eriksson definitely has the ability to make the jump from the AHL. But I'm not convinced the Stars are ready to move him up. Seems like they want him to at least start the season in the AHL and give guys like Lessard, Polak, and Tjarnquvist the first shot.
Miettinen is a very interesting option. Not sure if he will turn into anything more than a valuable third-line type of player but he is responsible on both ends and does have some offensive ability. At this point I would say the only four we can count on being in the top-6 are Modano, Lehtinen, Jokinen, and Morrow. The other two spots are wide open and we will likely see Stefan, Lessard, Eriksson, Miettinen, or Barnes all get a shot.
I do think the Stars will either trade from their now eight deep defensive corps or sign a free agent forward.
Miettenen is a very talented player with great hands. Does everyone remember that he started last year's season with shoulder surgery? I think he needs to beef up in order to take on a bigger role on the team.
Two things: sorry if I was unclear but I didn't mean to put Jokinen as a center. I just meant he was one of the four forwards considered in our top-6. Second, Adam Hall is an interesting player but not a top-6 guy. Scott Walker on the other hand would be a great acquisition in Dallas however.
