Laughton and Cousins' teams played each other today. Oshawa won 4-2. Laughton picked up an assist and Cousins scored a goal. Colin Suellentrop scored a goal and picked up an assist.
Cousins isn't much of a willing fighter. Apparently Cousins was in Laughton's face chirping him after Cousins scored a goal tonight.
Cousins was kind of in everyone's face with his goal celebration, it was that big. It was a beauty goal, scored in all alone - followed by a fist pump that started at the goal line and basically stretched to the blueline.
Cousins and Laughton mixed it up a few times - and Laughton threw some nice hits throughout the game, on other guys. Cousins certainly likes to pester, but most definitely does not get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to penalties - like a true Philadelphia Flyer.
Laughton seems to be playing with a bit more confidence since his return, watching his defensive awareness and committment is always mesmerizing. Cousins is the kind of player you would love to hate, not being on your team - but there is no denying his playmaking ability - sees the ice well and distributes the puck seamlessly.
Also if Gus is taken away from Adriondack they get even less offensively talented, though I presume the main reason is just that Holmgren wants Gus to get back into the swing of things and be consistent and the Flyers are playing somewhat better so a change isn't urgent.
Can Laughton play wing? Either him or B. Schenn is going to have to be moved there. Wondered if anybody knew?
I'd guess Schenn is moved to the wing. I would like Laughton to stay at C and be that excellent defensive guy. I am hoping he can at least be close to what Mike Richards was.

I'd prefer Giroux move back to wing (eventually, obviously) if Schenn, Couturier, and Laughton exceed G's defensive capabilites, with either Schenn or Couturier centering the top line. I see Laughton as more of a 3rd line center in the future.

I'd imagine that by the time Couturier is ready/able to take on the 1C role Briere would be off the team. This roster also leaves off McGinn who may be able to slide into Read's spot if Read slides up to Briere's slot.
Couturier will never ever be the #1 C on this team. His ceiling is more like Rod Brind'amour or Jordan Staal, which is still incredibly valuable for a team.
Couts is just not a natural scorer, not even an elite playmaker. I think 65pts are pretty much what they will get out of him on a regular basis in his prime besides him shutting down the opposition and dominating the PK. No way G is ever moved to wing for Couts.
