Some team is going to sign him to a long long term deal. Forget the goals, this guy is all heart and soul, reminds me of Gary Robarts. Mean, Tough and scoring touch. Not to mention a genuine leader.
He'll get around 5 mill but with a long term one, I don't see him getting 6 or 7. Lou absolutely adores him so I would not be surprise if he's signed in NJ for next 10 years. Although, rumor has it (someone please correct me, maybe a NJ fan) that he wants to play close to Toronto?

I haven't heard such a rumor, he has said that he plays some of his best hockey when he goes home to Toronto, though.
But Marty plays some of his best hockey when he goes home to Montreal, as well, and he remained a lifer even in his ridiculous prime.
Lou and Clarkson have a very appreciative relationship of each other - so I can't rule off a hometown discount to stay with the Devils.
I get the sense that even without Burke, Toronto would be willing to throw a very large chunk of money at him... and he's got a baby to take care of. So I'm not going to rule that out either.
Post Zajac's deal, Lou was asked about other upcoming UFAs and he said that Elias & Clarkson both know what they mean to the organization. So it looks like he has plans to take care of him... you don't get put in the same category as Elias for nothing.
I agree he could probably get 5M but I think that's too much in the long run. 4.25M?
Anyway, I would love to have him on the Leafs. Would be a great fit on our second line:
James van Riemsdyk - Mikhail Grabovski - David Clarkson
Hometown boy and all. IF he wouldn't resign with the Devils that is, but if he doesn't maybe a three way trade could be worked out with Pittsburgh involving Kulemin.
I don't know, 30 goals felt like a massive career year. I remember Devils fans wanted him gone before he went on a tear, and the year before he had 18 points in 82 games.. On the other hand he's tearing it up to start this year too, and looking as good as his stats suggest. Still, I'd try to be a little restrictive, point towards past achievements/small sample high-scoring, and try get a hometown discount if I'm the Devils.
I feel he's over preforming right now and in the end is more of a 20 goal 45 point guy that brings a lot more to the table with his edge and physical play. He's going to get 5+ million on the open market. He's worth about 3.5-4.0.

I agree with this. I think he is "worth" a little more than 4m though...maybe 4&1/2 - 4.75??? 3's is just too low for a player like him.
Clarkson does have the absolute perfect situation for himself in New Jersey though....
From the ideal coaching staff, to players around him, to the management they are all very conducive for Clarkson's career. I honestly do not believe Clarkson can find a better situation anywhere in the league.
The expectations from another franchise would make Clarkson and a new open market contract almost destine to fail somewhere else.
Clarky is definitely doing great at the moment, there is no doubt about that. Not to mention his best season last year as well. I doubt NJ lets him go "without their best efforts" (And I mean much better than with Parise, albeit he wanted to go home)
If it were up to me, I'd make it 4.3-4.8 mil, 5 if he really requests of it, for about 4-5 years. I believe from what I have read, seen, and heard, that he loves it in NJ. Nothing gives me the vibe that he will try free agency, unless we really disagree on terms to the point of no return.
id love to see him on long island.
4.25 to 4.50 for 4 years.
even if last year, and this seasons start are a fluke, it would be worth it just to get the guy so he would STOP KILLING THE ISLANDERS!! man, that guy ALWAYS finds a way to screw the islanders...... a timely goal, picture perfect pass for an assist, a big hit, even a save when the goalie is out of position. IF the islanders ever have momentum going against the devils, clackson finds some damned way too switch it around.
