He was great on the PK at the WJC's and seems to be adjusting to the center ice position quite well in Plymouth. He defensive prowess, nasty nature, and penchant for getting his nose dirty whenver possible sort've reminds me of Mike Peca, a little.

I read an interview in which he stated he fully expects a growth spurt. He mentioned that there is no man in his family under six two (IIRC) and they all had growth spurts "in college". He's not yet college age. He expects to get taller and broader.

EDIT: Found it:

Quote:
1. You are unique in that you're a power-forward type while being listed at 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds. Whom in the NHL do you watch closely because he is the type of player you'll need to be to reach that level?

"I like to look at David Backes [of the St. Louis Blues]. He's a captain. He's a leader. He might be a few inches taller than me. I'm not too worried about height. I don't have a guy under 6-foot on my dad's side. My uncle is 6-5, another uncle is 6-6, my dad is 6-2. My dad didn't grow until college — late bloomers in our family."

nice game for Hartman. games like these really stand out to me as he can be effective in any way shape or form even when he doesnt score. the even better part was he was a plus 4 on the night, the kid has two way skills and his offense is starting to show. someone is going to snag him in the top 20.

on a side note, the Plymouth Whalers should change their name to the Plymouth Americans!! Double Digit US kids on that squad, they really do a great job of landing US kids especially top talents like Noesen, Hartman, Carrick, Levi, and now Trocheck..

I'm intrigued to know who on the plymouth whalers, is for real, and who isn't.

Obviously it's a very talented team to be putting up this many points but in these scenarios, there's always a guy or two who's stats are being inflated due to their talented teammates.

He's older draftee...I would be skeptical on any more growth spurts

He might hit 6 feet, but that's about it. Bruins' prospect Ryan Spooner grew an inch in the two years after the draft, so it's not unheard of.

Even if he doesn't grow, 5'11 is plenty tall enough to make a major impact in the NHL.

Seems like a BOS or NYR pick waiting to happen.

It happens with tremendous frequency. Connor Murphy has grown over two inches in height. As far as I know Samuelsson has not. I don't believe Gormley hasnt. OEL has put on a little height but not much. Boedker hasn't gotten any taller. Turris grew an inch. Mueller didnt. Hanzal put on over an inch and Wheeler over two. That's just a sampling of Coyotes first picks over the last several years, and you see half of them growing between a half inch and an two inches.

Anyway, its more about how he broadens out. Morrow and Fisher have had long, effective careers playing physical games despite not being tall.

Hartman is going to play in the NHL. I'm not sure he has the skill to put up major points or even decent points, but I'm 100% sure that with his fire and energy that he will find a roster spot somewhere.

I really think you need to go see the average growth left for people at 18. Also, everyone grows an inch in hockey at some point because teams fudge the height and weight statistics.

the kid is 5'11 190 lbs...why is there any talk about size with this kid??

he has perfect size right now and will likely hit 6'0...seems like a lot of typing for no reason here.

kid has 7 points in his last 2 games, he just finds ways to contribute every night.

also helps that Vince Trocheck is there now,as both have really clicked...I think Florida should take serious notice.

I just noticed that ISS has him at 6'2 in their March rankings. Is that off base or has he hit the growth spurt that he was expecting?

saw him

and love him. kid is a carbon copy or ryan callahan. nonstop motor, hits, plays the game the right way, and adds timely offense. feature spark plug for his future team. leads with his play and has great intangibles. Hope the kings grab him or the rangers trade back in the first round to get him. my only gripe is that the kid needs to add some weight and work on his skating a little bit more but heck, he is still a puppy.

where do you like him going - i'm assuming out of the first round right now?

not a guy i'd want the hawks to take late in the 1st.

Out of the first round? More like top 15.

This guy is gunna be Ryan Kesler 2.0 if he reaches his full potential. If a team believes this guy will fully reach his potential and has no attitude problems I can see him being taken from 10-15.

I'm hoping he falls to the pick the Flames got from St Louis. Loved him at the WJC and he's only become better since.

still amazed how little buzz this kid gets. looks like one of the more NHL ready players in this draft. completely solid in both zones and plays physical. comparisons to Kesler, Brown, and Callahan are all correct...how the hell does this kid get so little buzz and how is he not in everyone's top 15 lists??

he isn't the sexiest player, but if you could get a Ryan Callahan clone in this draft, that talent, character, and grit are surely worth a top 15 pick.
