Ryan Kesler

Just wondering what others think of Kesler. We've been playing really well without him and Booth, and Shroeder looks impressive filling in. He's about a week or two away from coming back.

I hope you are not advocating trading him.

We'll be one of the deeper teams when him and Booth are healthy.

What would it take for MN to land him?

This is very premature... Lots of ifs and buts. One player coming off injury and another potentially walking for nothing.

Something based around Perry.

Kesler + Jensen

for

Perry

Pretty certain Perry would have no problems signing in Van.

No, but I'm curious what his value is right now.

Oh good, we can still be friends

It would depend on who would want him. Is it going to be like Toronto where he'll be your main guy or a deep team where he'll be used as a secondary scorer/2 way defender.

I imagine it would be Koivu+, but I don't think Minny has any reason to do that. It'd have to be enough of a + to make up for the cap hell it would put Vancouver in, while getting a comparable player.

Vancouver has no reason to trade Kesler - nothing they replace him with would be as effective for as great of a cap hit.

There is no way I trade Kesler for Perry straight up. Especially one looking for an even bigger payday if not an outright UFA.

Gillis would get hung from a TREE if he pulled some stunt like this.

A locked up Perry at 5mil for the next 4 years like Kesler is has very similar value but I still dont do it straight up, let alone with Jensen.

But we will give you Ballard , Malhotra and Yann Sauve for Getzlaff.

Perry's value is a rental value. No chance rental Perry is worth 4 years of Kesler at $5M. I think Perry is a slightly better player objectively, but the difference isn't a Jensen quality prospect.

I wouldn't trade Kesler for Perry straight up. Upcoming UFAs rarely get impact players signed long-terms coming back the other way. It's usually just a medley of solid prospects/picks and a decent roster player.

Kesler for Weber was something that was tossed around a short while back before Nashville locked him up, but even that wasn't very appealing.

If we do trade Kesler, I'd want a Huberdeau/Granlund/Tarasenko calibre prospect coming the other way.

Koivu is untouchable and just flat out a better player than Kesler on his own. So the + is absolutely silly.

Sorry misgauged Kesler's value. Didn't realize 2nd line centers coming off injury were worth Hart trophy winners or perennial Norris trophy candidates. My bad stupid me. I apologize.

Oh, I didn't realize 40-goal scoring Selke winners signed long-term at a friendly cap-hit were worth slightly better players with only one year left on their contract before they get a huge payday.

I see Koivu and Kesler as being as close to equivalent players as there is in the league. Two way beast, Selke quality, 60-70 pt heart and soul centers who essentially drive their teams success. Koivu is a better playmaker while Kesler is a better goalscorer, but aside from that, how are they significantly different? The + is because Koivu makes $1.8M per year more.

Would love to see Winnipeg get him so they can finally have their no. 1 center they've desired.

Kesler has a NTC.

Roberto Luongo aside, the Canucks haven't moved anyone with one of those that I can recall.

I think many Canuck fans know Kesler will rather stay in Vancouver or go to Detroit if he actually makes it to a UFA offseason.
While contending it doesn't make sense for Vancouver to deal Kes. He is the heart and soul of the team and any team in the West would have to significantly outbid any East team for Vancouver to consider helping out what could be a playoff match up.

Koivu at least in my opinion, brings more to a team. Not arguing that Kesler isn't a great two way center...but he is a complementary piece to a guy like Koivu. The stat lines really don't do justice to what a player like Mikko brings. Perhaps the same can be said for Kesler.....and I don't claim to be an expert on the Canucks....but I just don't see it.

If I am Vancouver I would do Kesler and a 2nd or 3rd for Taylor Hall in a heartbeat. Hall simply isn't worth Kesler and a first though...imo.

Do Habs fans not like Plekanec? Why is he on almost every proposal involving a top player?

surely not, Kesler is a lil better than Plekanec so the + could be a second and a prospect like Leblanc or Tinordi.
