As a Leafs fan I don't want either of these trades.
Weiss isn't the #1C we need, thought I like him.
I'd rather have Gardiner than Yandle, especially if it means giving up Grabo in the process.
That being said, Yandle is currently a better player (obviously).

Dont like the 1st one too much, dont mind the second. Think something else would come back from PHO in that particular trade.

I actually don't think this is a bad idea. Granted both would have to happen to get me to consider it.

Yandle - Phaneuf would be a deadly PP tandem and Holzer looks like he can replace Gunnarsson long term.

However I don't know how much more valuable Yandle is than Grabovski. I don't think it's Gardiner worth tbh. Maybe Leafs add a 2nd and Phoenix add boedker(sp?)?

Send a message via ICQ to Kelly
I wouldn't do this first one, but to it's defense I am a HUGE Jake Gardiner fan.

Gunnarsson for Weiss I would do.

/leaf fan

Yandle gets no love on these boards. Wow. Nonis would do those in a heartbeat. Can't believe people are even debating!

Not bad, but where does Yandle and his $5+ cap fit? You have Phaneuf at $6.5 who's also a LD. Liles at $3.8 who's an LD.

I'd rather move Liles than Gunnar as well

And yet Nonis stated publicly that he was not in the business of trading younger players for older players.

Panthers don't go near that, the hell? We just moved a defenseman because we had one to many, have several good prospects in the system, and this leaves a huge void at center with no solution.

What would Florida be looking for? Obviously the assumption is that Weiss is going to walk in UFA at years end.

First deal looks solid, imo.

Second has the Panther's getting hosed. Makes no sense for them to trade a centre for a defenseman, either.

No idea, and I get that that's the assumption, but Tallon has said he's goin to do all can to re-sign Weiss, as Weiss hasn't indicated he wants to move on. Just doesn't wan to talk about re-signing til the season is over. I'm sure the: 'I want this amount,' but: 'we think you're worth this amount because of these reasons' is something he'd rather no hear while playing.

I like the first one, but it gives us a serious hole at centre.

Even if thats the assumption, there would be a bidding war for Weiss at the trade deadline. You would have to also take the assumption that the Panthers are completely out of the playoff race as well (if they are even close, like a few pts out as now they wouldnt entertain the idea). So if you're looking to trade for him, you have to wait until then to start with. And then if you're looking to find out his value, you have to start with a 1st rounder (or equivalent value) and then add to that just to get Tallon to listen.

Please show me ONE FLORIDA-BASED Journalist who agreees that Weiss is going to walk?? The only people who say that are NORTH of the BORDER!!!!!!!!!!!

Weiss is the Panthers CAPTAIN and likes playing here.

Please Canadian-based fans, stop assuming Weiss wants out, there is no FIRST-HAND knowledge of that.

Having said this that trade offer to the Panthers is BRUTAL.

Sorry for insulting. Not insinuating he wants out, if that was the case then this would be speculation or even a rumor. I meant that this trade proposal is based on the assumption that he is going to walk in UFA (just a hypothetical, something that Florida management has surely thought about). AKA a deadline deal because nothing could be worked out. So if that was the case (which his contract status at this current time indicates) is an RFA top 4 defense man worth it? Obviously not a need of the Florida Panthers which i neglected to identify when i posted the thread. So with the premise that a deal cant get done what would be a need Florida would want to fill if they do happen to trade Weiss.
