Take out one of Grant or Borocop and add Peumpel and that's a list.

I'll contact Jason Kay, and try to get the official release date for the mag this year. I'll update the thread when I find out.

This part is usually overlooked by the time the Future Watch is released. In recent years, some teams have withheld decent prospects from the list seemingly because they were unsigned and could re-enter the draft. Teams would prefer to avoid the minor PR headache of losing a top 10 prospect.

Off the top of my head, the Islanders didn't list Kevin Poulin and Casey Cizikas in the past although internally they knew they were top 10 prospects in the organization.

Some Carolina posters were surprised when Frederik Andersen wasn't listed last year after a superb season in the SEL. But it wouldn't be shocking if Carolina left him off their top 10 list knowing they were having difficulty signing him to a contract. Andersen would eventually re-enter the draft and get selected by Anaheim.

1. Jon Merrill
2. Stefan Matteau
3. Alex Urbom
4. Eric Gelinas
5. Damon Severson
6. Reid Boucher
7. Keith Kinkaid
8. Scott Wedgewood
9. Reece Scarlett
10. Blake Coleman / Blake Pietila

Just a stab in the dark. With the Future Watch, the Devils seem to have a tendency to list AHL guys over junior prospects. I wouldn't be surprised if they had Jeff Frazee on the list for the eighth straight year. Merrill's been hurt all year, so his ranking could be lower but I think he's still our best prospect. Wouldn't expect to see anybody crack the top 50, perhaps even the top 75.

Will be interesting to see how much of an affect the return of the NHL will have on the Future Watch rankings.

Obviously, guys like Tarasenko, Granlund, Galchenyuk, Grigorenko etc.. won't be considered prospects anymore since they are in the NHL.

Of course, this is assuming the issue/rankings were being worked on right when the lockout ended and currently. Usually, they begin working on the issues/talking with scouts immediately after the WJC so there's a possibility all these guys will be included on the lists after all.

Russians dominate THN's Future Watch top 50 list of NHL-affiliated prospects. Four with Russian names (Galchenyuk spolier alert) in top 6.

I always buy this because it's a nice collectable to look at later on but I'd pay twice as much for it if they made it thicker with a bit of a scouting report on the prospects rather than just a little blurb of praise by the kid's coach/scout/GM.

That would be the most obvious choices, yes.

Usually, 3 of the 4 wouldn't qualify for the list because of their current NHL status, but I've spoken to Jason Kay from THN and he informed me things were done a bit differently this year because of the messy lockout situation.

Oh, are we including older guys who've played pro for a few seasons?

In that case, I'm giving the Jets a bump... I don't feel so bad now.

Switch Howden & Shore, Shore has basically bypassed Howden now. Rau at #10 is debateable as I could see Colby Robak there more easily (more projectable to the NHL than Rau).
