Do you think if you keep posting Kessel to LI, that it will somehow change the Isles budget restrictions or Kessel closing in on unrestricted free agency?
It's not like he's a UFA in a couple months. You'd also have him next year as well. Could be longer if you can ink him to a new deal as well. He might prefer to play in New York. The Islanders are not as big as a market as Toronto is, so he may reclaim his anonymity, which most of us feel is essentially his issue at times.
I think your misconception is that you are under the impression that players whom are under long term contracts are the only players that get dealt for quality. That's seldomly the case.
Regardless, I didn't come on here to get in a fight, nor antagonize. I simply wanted to gauge Kessel's value and play "armchair GM" as most of us enjoy doing.
For an Internet message board we know a lot about the Isles budget, dont we?
I guess when Strome becomes good enough he will just get traded to reduce the cap hit.
Yes because the isles cap floor tricks over the last 4-5 seasons, along with reports from credible reporters haven't given fans an idea of the isles budget.
Snow just stumbles into trades involving players with cap hits, higher then the player's actual salary. The backloaded contracts given to Tavares/Moulson/Okposo/Nielsen/Grabner are all coincidences(sp).

Get this: Thomas, Visnovsky, John Tavares, Matt Moulson, Martin Grabner, Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen combine for a full-season cap hit of $27.783 million. Yet because of contract structures and suspension, the Islanders actually are paying these seven players a sum of $16 million.

You ignore the isles budget restrictions.
If the leafs called the isles and asked for some combo of Strome/Nino/Reinhart/+ Grabner/Okposo, Snow would bring up players like Gardiner/Reilly/Kadri. Not the high priced Kessel, quickly approaching unrestricted free agency.

You're wrong. While the Islanders are a money strapped team, they still have the manouverability and creativity to ice a team that could do some damage. Especially with some of the mainstay assets they have(Tavares/Moulson/DeHaan/Reinhart/HamonicNabokov). If need be Toronto could take back some salary.
First of all, this thread is about trying to find Tavares a winger. Kessel would fit there perfectly. There is no denying that.
What about NY sending a salary dump are way as well, let's say in the form of...Tim Thomas.

Kessel for Okposo + Strome + Thomas (cap reasons)
Now what is your arguement?
For Wang and Snow, the Thomas cap hit is probably the most untouchable asset in their grasp.

Not really. Kessel is a perfect player for our 2nd line (w/Nielsen and Grabner). You couldn't play Moulson and Kessel on a line that wanted to work the cycle. It just wouldn't work.
If we had a big winger to compliment Kessel/JT it would work. But we don't...
Well..you could send us Thomas and we could send you Komisarek.
It's not about that. The fact that Thomas has a $5M cap hit with zero real dollars paid is what makes it to attractive to them. The Isles don't want to switch it with Komisarek's contract because they actually have to pay money.

Well...the beauty about the new CBA is that teams can pay a portion of a traded players salary. That could play a factor in a potential deal.

Fans looking for a winger for Tavares, does not mean Snow is looking outside the organization for a winger for Tavares.
And it does not mean taking on a big salary, that does not fit the team's short term or long term budget.
It's not just about the next 1 and 1/2 season.
Yes, the Leafs could retain salary for the next 1 and 1/2 seasons.
Then in the summer of 2014, when Kessel demands $6m-$8m per, the isles would be responsible for 100% of that salary.
What would be wrong with that? You guys are having trouble getting to the cap floor as it is. Plus alot can change in a year and a half. Other players will come and go as well.

Isles cap is at $53m/$54m. So, no need find a way to reach the cap floor.
This summer Hamonic is due a raise. Next summer Matt Moulson will be due a much deserved raise.
Tavares 6 yr deal averages $5.5m. No interest in seeing the isles, pay Kessel $6m-$8m per. He's not worth that amount imo. If the Leafs and Leaf fans disagree and want him to take home that type of salary, cool. It's their team, their budget.
Not that Snow/Wang would pay his salary or part with the assets t acquire him especially from our biggest rival but I think the best winger for Tavares would be Nash.
